Thoughts on this?

Can't go wrong with a FN SPR, certainly would pick one every time over a 700 myself.
The A5M XP would be a great rig to learn on.

Except for the CRF the M 70's have a few other strong points.
Intergal recoil lug makes it sturdier and easier to change barrels on then most.
The flat bottomed action do give a better bedding surface.
The standard M 70 trigger is one of the better factory triggers out there if you tune it, witch is real easy.
And the chrome lined bore improves barrel life.

The only downside to the M 70 is really that you don't have 100 different manufactures of each accessory to choose from.
And not all 'gunsmiths will work on it.

Personally i would have gone with a PBR or A1 and butchered it, bought the stock you prefer, a CDI dbm and get it all bedded and fitted.
But that's just my opinion.

I actually am considering picking up the TSR XP, having it fitted with either the FN bottom metal or the CDI, and having it all bedded in a used stock (manners or Mcmillan) to save some cash. Still have time to consider everything, just the A5M XP has everything I want as of right now...

Well the CDI DBM uses AI mags witch are of better quality then the FN's , and also a lot easier to come by.
You do also have aftermarket manufacturers that delivers different magazines that will fit.

The only other downside i see to it is the saddle cheekpiece on the A5 witch are'nt exactly known for they're sturdiness, and it tends to work loose from recoil and move.
If you do however prefer the A5 stock then there is no big reason to not go for it.

Buying it will give you a good rifle to start with right away.
Going the other route, will save you money, take more time and give you a slightly more ideal rifle.
Either way you will have a really good rifle to start out with.

I like the McMillian stock that came with my SPR A1A, I installed flush cups and with a 20moa Near Mfg. rail and Seekins 34mm .97 Low rings I don't need to put anything on the stock to raise my cheek height. I use the Eagle stock pack and two strips of velcro that comes with it and it works. But......I'm saving up for an XLR chasis and switching it out as soon as I can. So if anyone needs mine I'm selling it.
