I have a 6.5 Grendel with 9/16-24 TPI threads. I purchased a thread protector with 5/8-24 TPI outside threads. When I tighten it finger tight
the thread adapter there is still a considerable gap between the thread adapter and the barrel. How can I fix this so that I will be able to time
the thread adapter to the barrel and the TBAC 30 BA.

As I imagine what you describe, I believe you mean the adapter does not bottom out on the shoulder of the threaded portion of the barrel. And that you need to time the brake. Is this correct? It seems that your crown is butting against the inside of the adapter.

Can you post photos of it?

Whatever the situation, you need to be sure the bore of the barrel is aligned with the bore of the suppressor. Generally, the shoulder-suppressor mating is what ensures proper alignment. With the BA, the brake threads align the suppressor, but you still need to ensure the brake is aligned to the bore. Since you don't have this mating, you should come up with a way to make certain you have a repeatable method of attachment. You may have several ways to ensure proper alignment. Rethreaded the barrel to TBAC specs, get a 9/16-24 BA brake, verify current threads and adapter are proper spec'd, for example.
