Suppressors Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

Like seeing a quality company like Thunder Beast always making upgrades and improvements. Once I get back to the States I plan to invest in a 30P-1 for my .308 and .260.

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

Zak, can you build me a custom break/mount for my 338BA/AIAX which would incorporate the clamping feature of the factory AI break?

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

Tom,

The way I see it, the benefit of the clamping AI brake is that it can be easily removed and replaced with just an allen wrench and "manual" eyeball timing - no torque to time. This is helpful if you want to remove and replace it often. With the BA brake, the intent is that you leave the brake on all the time and add/remove the suppressor, so the benefit of the clamping brake is minimal. In addition, the brake is held square by the clamping force of the threads against the shoulder, while the clamp brake is held square "only" by the sleeve over the profile section of the barrel. The former is preferable for suppressor alignment. The BA brake is easy to time with the supplied peel washer.

We'll keep it in mind for a future product, but custom work is too disruptive to our production schedule now that we're busy most of the time.

thanks
Zak

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

can I get different timing washers? the supplied ones (OD) overwhelm the shoulder of the barrel and the ID is to large for the threaded portion of the barrel. they kinda just flop around there especially with the undercut at the shoulder

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

Had a chance to look at one up close last weekend. Like the option of using the break or the can. Easy to take on and off. May have to consider getting one. Well thought out product.

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

I tried out my new 338 BA yesterday on a DTA 338, we just did an informal sound comparison against some other cans. lets just say I was very impressed! sounded like a .22 mag bolt gun.

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

I know you said that you are too busy to take up custom work at this time. Would making a 30p break with a .223 sized hole and 1/2 x 28 threads instead of the standard .308 be something available in the future? Or even a 6mm sized break? I understand how you would be afraid of a customer putting a 30 cal bullet into the too small of break.

This does not make any sense at all. Why would you want to buy a QD suppressor brake that clamps so you can remove it? Are you going to reinstall the AI factory brake? I would put the TBAC BA break on and forget about taking it off. If you keep removing it, eventually the peel washers are going to be junk and your timing will change. Thus throwing your shot off.

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

Im trying to avoid cutting the barrel to accept the TBA break. there's aprox .370 of thread from the shoulder of the barrel to the muzzle in the AI thread 18x1 which is coarse as hell/sloppy. in addition, the shoulder itself (barrel) is not much larger than the OD of the threaded portion of the barrel hence, a poor mounting surface for the break IMHO. Im not looking to remove the mount all the time, just trying to accommodate my barrel configuration. Have you seen the factory AIAX mount/break?

It's under discussion.

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

We went over this earlier in the thread:

I said-
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">
I just measured my AI .338LM barrel (2005 date stamp) and it's 0.479" from shoulder to muzzle, and the threads are approx 0.36" long (or 6 threads). That's basically identical to the other factory or GAP AI barrels I have in the safe, although some of them try to squeeze another thread in the root cut area. So it sounds like yours is the same as all mine. The threads are large and have a lot of holding power.
</div></div>
Before, you said
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">your dimensions are like mine btw. </div></div>
You just said that the threads are 0.370" from shoulder to muzzle, which is not the same.

There's nothing wrong with the AI threads. If your threads as as I described in the paragraph above, you don't have to do anything.

AI threads are M18x1.5. The threads do not hold everything straight, the shoulder does. If you think you have some non-standard AI muzzle arrangement, please post pictures of it. The AX's I've seen have all had the big two-chamber AI brake that was the same one for the AWSM's.

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

do the AW's have the suppressor mount at the end of the break? I just confirmed my thread length, it is .470. I stand corrected. I did call Shane about the new timing washers and thats the route Im going to take

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

There is an AI "Tactical" muzzle brake but almost nobody uses it; to my knowledge there is no US-made silencer that fits it, and it is a poor way to mount a silencer (ports behind threads, etc, etc).

All the AI-UK factory-threaded barrels I've seen (other than .50 cal), have the same arrangement that fits either the old, small AW brake or the newer two-chamber .338 brake.

Re: Thunder Beast Arms - New Brake-Attach Suppressors

well that explains it, mines the tactical version. Just got off the phone with Shane and the timing washers are inbound
