Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

Hey Tom, what are your thoughts on targets? I know it can't be held through the whole course, but what about 1.5 moa for size? A regular man sized torso would be cool for the mile target as well.

If Temp stays right, should be frozen and muddy.
Last year was frozen and cold.
Sausage, cheese, and bread.
Floaters don't work in snow!

Cold , windy, dry right now.
25 deg and gusting high winds.

Go From There.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

You mentioned same course setup as before. Could you elaborate a bit on that for those of us that have never been there before? Approximate starting and ending distances and sizes of targets please?

Is there a time limit at each stage or can a single shot be used without being overly rushed?

Thanks

I'm not Tom, but here's a thread with a few pics from the last January shoot. http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthre...4836#Post924836
Single shots are not a problem as most guys use their rifles that way anyway. Targets for the course are from 275 yards out to 1150. There are 4 stations with 4 targets each. You get up to 3 shots per target to hit it. Typically there is an 8 minute time limit for the 4 targets, but you'll be fine. It's more of a guideline to keep everybody moving, but during the team match the time can mean bonus points. Shots are taken from the ground using bipod and bags. Here's a thread with the target ranges. Print it and bring it along. http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthre...367#Post1170367

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

Thanks mscott that sums it up very well. Targets are 8x18" and 12" in dia. Small...but for a reason. We will discuss new target sizes this match. I'm working on a couple suppliers at this time on AR500 plate.

Thanks,
Tom

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

Sounds like a fun match. We'll have to work on some settings but I'm sure we'll make it out there to a few if they run this all summer.

Now to practice with our belly in the dirt and hoping someone will help us get back up when we're done.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

To make it easy.
You will need dope from zero to 1200.
New shooters are given more time to learn, usually.
We need to work better as a team.
.308 with a base, will work.
Guy's shooting for time, work together.
Two man team, four targets, under five, gets ten.

Or you can slip on dry, frosty mud.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

Looking back at TCA's pictures, the weather didn't want to agree with us all day(1/11/09).Cold we had handled. Not seeing the target due to snow, sucked.I had fun though.

I'm anxious for this match to happen.

I've been away most of the year due to work.I missed alot of matches.I spent alot of time away from my rifle.I got out of practice. This year will be different I hope.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

I've killed three coyotes in the last two weeks without trying. They're thick this year and I'm planning on hitting it hard in the upcoming weeks.

Ok...off subject. I need some help guys.

The Templar deal is OFF for now and maybe for good. So...all things here remain the same as before. I STILL OWN AND OPERATE TVP and we WILL continue to serve EVERYONE seven days a weeks as before. Please pass this along on other sites if this comes up as I see a couple guys already have and I appreciate you guys looking out for me.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

Tom, if the weather warms up a bit do you still have days available to come up and get some sight settings at the various distances and also see your range? What is the cost for that?

Ill be there! Ive got an itch and it needs to be scratched! Havent gotten to use my can at TVP yet.

Its been so long though that Im afraid my dope is not going to be right, not to mention the extreme temp difference since the last time I was there. Ill be getting there early for sure. Hopefully Josh and Flounder make it out too.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

Hey Jon...

Hope to see you there. Jeff B. and Pete B. are coming too...looks like a good crowd.
I suspect 20 shooters or more. Make sure you bring your cameras and video cameras too.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

jon,

No..it's still the same set up. We may change it up some this year but I like the fact no ones aced it yet.. Very challenging course indeed. Some shooters, after looking at past scores have never broke 50 or 100 and they've shot the course several of times. I would like to see it stay till it's aced. But...till then we can put another a "shorter" distance course in... say.. everything under 500 yards on another part of the property... working on it now. All targets will be 12" x 12" square AR500 plate. Maybe enough time to shoot both courses in a day? Hmmm....I see a weekend shoot in the mix. Our nite shoot may be all under 500 yards?

I dont see anyone ever acing that course, at least not with a sub-magnum. Has anyone beat the guy with the 338LM's score yet?

I definitely agree that the night shoot should mainly be under 500yds. If I remember right I had the farthest hit on the 850yd steel off to the right from position one...and Ill admit that was probably luck. But once we moved to position 3 we were all hitting the sub 500 targets quite easily after we dialed them in.

A short range course would be cool for guys that dont have real long range rifles. My one buddy would love to come down, but the best he has is a 223. A sub 500 course would be a lot of fun for those guys. Hell even my dad may come down and shoot his 22-250 on a short range course.

Im sure youll be able to find it locally cheaper, but if you havent yet, talk to LVshooter on here about the AR500. I looked all over locally to me and no one could come close to his price on pre-cut steel targets, even after shipping. I got my 18x10" man shaped steel shipped for $110. So if you were to buy bulk Id assume theyd be a lot cheaper.

BTW Tom, is that loading block still holding up for you?
