My XD 40 had the same (very similar, striker wouldn't cock, if cocked, striker would drop without finger or hand on weapon) failure, and needed to be sent in before it was safe to use again. I took this as my excuse to finally send it to the custom shop to get an action job and a new barrel, after 9 years I figured it deserved an overhaul.
Granted, I probably could have bought an XDm instead, but I've grown kind of attached to it, being my very first personal weapon and all. Might even pass it down to my mini-me someday.

Sent mine in the first few days of the recall. Called about it about a week later and was advised that they were estimating 6 - 8 weeks before return.
I feel for those having to send there gun in, especially those who use it as a primary carry gun and don't have a backup. I wonder if SA will do a good faith gesture like throw in a free magazine or something for the inconvenience. Surely those mags don't cost them more than $10 a pop.
I kind of figured about a month but I do have backup. I sent it back in the case, should I open it and find an extra mag I will smile, but I ain't really looking for that to happen. 
Mine actually slam fired and punched a hole through my Tempurpedic mattress with my infant daughter in the next room. Fortunately, no one was hurt. This was before the recall and I was less than impressed with how they handled the situation, or didn't rather. I still need to get it back to them.

I've shot a glock and it was OK but everytime I think of that plastic guide rod I fall down laughing. I was in a gun class and everyone broke down their pistols and the guy with the Glock had a bent plastic guide rod rolling around on the table.

Have you heard of guide rods causing failures in Glocks? I'm not an authority though I own a 23 and a 30 with never so much as one problem. I also own a couple of Springfield XD sub compacts. One in .40 and the other in 9mm which I gave to my daughter.
A word to the wise, I found my summer walks had caused a a moisture build up in the striker channel of my Stainless XD .40 that actually seized it up! I had wiped it down but missed the loaded chamber indicator remaining proud when I unloaded and reloaded it! One day I dry fired it and noticed the loaded chamber pin still proud! Sure enough, the striker was locked up in it's channel!
I stripped the slide down and used some 000 steel wool with Kroil to buff both the striker and the channel down for a little extra cushion for the pushin! No problems since.
I consider this to be my fault but a word to the wise if you carry your pistol concealed in the sultry regions: Moisture migrates!
No I have not but that's not surprising as I don't keep up with the world of glock so if there was a failure(s) I might not know about it. As far as I know glock may use a steel guide rod now but I really have no idea if they do or not. I do know Glocks have a very good reputation so I was very surprised to see that plastic thing in there rolling around on the table in a warped state. But I suppose stranger things have happened. Having my own XDS in for repair (new gun) is proof of that. Anytime your dealing with mechanical moving parts there's always something that can cause a disruption in how it works. I do believe after market company's make a steel guide rod for the Glock so if I were to own one I would probably opt for that option.
A bit of info. You can go to the Springfield site and click on the XDS recall section on the home page. Then click on the "Get Started" link. Enter your serial number and it will come back with the current status of you pistol in the repair process. It will let you know if the repair is complete and being shipped back to you.

Surprisingly the only time you hear of a problem caused by a guide rod in glocks is almost always because somebody put an aftermarket one in. I know of rental guns that have tens of thousands of rounds through them on the original guide rod and spring and function flawlessly. Typically the first thing to wear on a glock is the slide release spring and even that takes thousands of rounds. The plastic frame takes more stress from a shot thatnthe guide rod does and nobody complains about that.
Just FYI, Springfield does not have a fix for the recall. They are working hard to find one but we probably won't be getting our guns back anytime soon.
I for one am tired of Springfields bullshit when it comes to this pistol. I also own a TRP that I am very happy with. Anyway first it was light primer strikes and failures to fire, that seemed to go away with a good Frog Lube douching and 500 break in rounds. Now I send it in and they lied to us all and said 30 days, when the reality is that they have no fix. Blatant lying to some 200,000 owners. This pistol was made in Croatia and obviously didnt come with very good quality control from the start. Some worked flawlessly while others had various problems. Now this shit. Hey Springfield give me my F-in money back. Thanks for letting me vent.
I do like that it's a nice small thin .45, but honestly I'm just gonna eat crow and buy a Glock 30S, like my Fanboy Glock buddy told to in the first place.

I received an email today from Springfield. They seem to think they will be tested and satisfied with the fix by next Friday. There will be a new roll pin installed in the pistol grip safety. Don't know much more than that. So sometime after Friday they should start doing the mods on all customer XDS's and returning them to us, hopefully.

I talked with someone who works in the Springfield machine shop last night. He said they had a fix and thought they should be shipping pistols out this week. This isn't anything official, just what an employee told me.
Finally got two different emails from Springfield, mostly the same BS but no real date when to expect anything, so the wait continues
