Tightest group or shortest vertical spread?

I got it, you were bringing the 200 yrd numbers back to 100. I still say the only thing he has shot that stands a chance at distance is his 2nd pic, blue.
If he has 1" of vertical spread at 200, it'll be 3-4" at 500, 10" or more at 1K
I just am wondering how much shooter in the groups - that can be the issue when shooting just a few rounds for some people.

I am suggesting he start over

What you’re missing as we suggested that between the skill level and wind he brings his testing into 100 yards. He has not shot at 100 yards.

I don’t care what size the group is and how much “shooter” he has in the groups. If the groups are nearly the same and he has difficulty in choosing, is the point. I’ve seen rounds with 100 ft./s variance shoot nice enough groups at 100 yards.. You have to weed out a factory round that has jacked up velocities.

And I certainly am not talking about group sizes that different greatly. I’m talking about a tiebreaker.

Remember he’s not reloading.

Edited to add that we might all be talking past each other. If I wasn’t looking for a tiebreaker between two groups I certainly would pick the smallest group. I think he needs to perform the test up close to make sure that his shooting is not influencing the group.

If we're talking about my targets and questions (vs the OP).... I'm not shooting factory ammo (in the examples I gave). They are "custom" loads, just not loaded by me. Delegated to Copper Creek Ammo. They send five rounds each of five different powder loads in "Load Development Pack #1." I pick the best one, and tell them which one it was. Then, using THAT powder load, they send LDP #2, which is five rounds each of five different seating depths (based on the chamber measurement that I also send to them). Then I pick the best of LDP #2. Then Copper Creek has my rifle's "recipe."

I've already learned some good stuff here. I've got two new LDP #1s coming (two different bullets - ELD-M 140-gr and Berger Hybrid 130-gr). I'm going to test them at 100 yards and use my MagnetoSpeed to combine the selection criteria, as Diver160651 has described. Thanks! (y)

Lol, I have to agree, or buy some factory ammo as a comparison

I get some great groups with my RPR and factory ammo. Hornady Match ELD 140-gr, Federal Gold Medal Match Berger Hybrid 130-gr, and even Hornady American Gunner / Hornady Black 140-gr.... all consistently give me sub-MOA groups.

What is your goal with the CC ammo then? You are now going to pay a premium to tighten decent grouping. I understand the desire to shoot the best ammo possible, are you 100% sure the rifle is up to the task? IMO, you are riding the fulcrum.

I admit you make a very valid point. I've shot sub-1/2-MOA groups with even the Hornady Black / American Gunner ammo! A few even sub-1/3-MOA. I've shot sub-1/2-MOA with all the factory ammo I listed. Though, not consistently sub-1/2-MOA. Same goes with the semi-custom CC ammo. They're ALL pretty consistently sub-MOA, though I'd say the CC is more consistent. As most will say... the rifle is capable of better groups than me. I dare say the RPR is a "helluva" rifle, especially for the money.

So, why chase even smaller groups? Just me, I guess. It becomes addicting! Though, at the same time I'm working on my own marksmanship fundamentals. I'm still a semi-noob. :) Bottom line is that I'm having fun with it!

I've got 2200 rounds through the OEM barrel. So, in the forseeable future, I'll be replacing the barrel. Thinking Krieger or Bartlein. Then it will be even better, and I'll get to start the testing process all over again. :geek:

If the quest for accuracy is that great, you owe it to yourself to reload. You wont be happy till you do. Do not be scared off by costs either, people have reloading for eons with simple gear, just pay attn to details. Most of us do not have a single pc of gear we started with, though it is trendy to go full retard upfront.

I still have my first equipment, I just haven’t used it in forever!

Actually, I’ll use the decapping rod to cease flash holes and chamfer tool when I need to do a one off. Still like the mtm funnel the best, I chose right on that one.

Yes. I know this is the next step. My issue is having a PLACE to do it. Really no room at home. Not at this time, anyway. Maybe when the kids move out. I need a "man-cave!" But, I don't have one right now. :(
