Thanks to Justin from KRG for the great stock!

Re: Tikka T3 Build Complete!

Thanks for the kind words!

The stock is only available in black as of right now.

I spray canned it with Krylon Khaki just to see how it would turn out...the paint is not as durable as I would like it to be, so will think about cerakoting it down the line.

I have not shot it with the brake yet. Will report back after Wednesday when I do.

I was tempted to start with a R700 into an AICS stock and the whole bit, but after feeling the action and trigger of the Tikka compared to a Remmy, it was a no brainer. Action is smoother than any other, trigger is fantastic and to my personal liking adjusted to ~1.8 pounds. Out of the box, you can see that it's a half MOA rig. The rifle itself cost me $850 pre tax and dros.

As far as the pricing for the other items:

Stock: (Was lucky enough to get in on the first KRG batch so I got a bit of a discount)

Monopod:

Total came out to around: $4300

Re: Tikka T3 Build Complete!

Was not expecting to get such a serious hard on when I clicked the link, congrats on a killer build. It's got me thinking I need a Tikka with a KRG Chassis.

Re: Tikka T3 Build Complete!

Holy cow I'm not sure how I missed this thread. I really really like the tan color. And we're all glad you like the chassis. If you would, send us an email with your address to info at krg-ops.com cause we have some Gen II parts for you. We made the cheek piece a little wider/more comfortable and some other little things. Good to see more stocks in use! That's a hell of a build.

nice looking setup
and thanks for posting the info
i have a friend that is building a tikka t3 also and he'd definately love to give this a look

Re: Tikka T3 Build Complete!

I shot the rig for the first time with the brake last week. Definately a noticeable difference in felt recoil. If i had to throw out an un-scientific estimate, I would say the recoil decreased by about 25-30%.

While at full 22x on the scope magnification, I was able to see the bullet hit the target out to six hundred yards, maintaining visual on point of original aim (which is the main reason why I wanted a brake).

I dont know if it directly affected the accuracy or not since I modified my loads. I averaged 0.75" MOA at 100 yards via 6 four-shot groups, which was much worse than last time. I think that my muzzle fps was WAY too low since I was dropping 18 MOA @ 600 yards (can anyone verify that my thinking is correct?) I seated the OAL out to 3.86" from the previous 3.78" with the same amount of varget, leaving lots of empty space inside the case. I will try out a 44gr load next time. Part of the reason was probably me too, but I know the FPS was too low.

Lastly, sound increased more than 50%. I did not have a decibel meter, but I had to use ear plugs, and ear muffs. It was quite painful without 2 layers of protection. But no, the clamped brake did not fly off and is still "zeroed" on the barrel.

Re: Tikka T3 Build Complete!

That Tikka looks Sick! I have a Tikka T3 Varmint in .22-250 that i want to put a Whiskey 3 chassis on........ Did you do all the mods yourself or did you take it to a gun smith?

Re: Tikka T3 Build Complete!

18 MOA @ 600 suggests you're right around 2480 fps. I get 2650 from two different 22" barrels, so you shouldn't have any problem getting your MV up to around 2600. Hopefully, the 44 gr of Varget will get you close.

Re: Tikka T3 Build Complete!

That's a nice looking setup there! I finally got to do some load testing on my T3 Varmint. Not too bad considering I was splitting shooting time with my deer rifles (rifle season starts tomorrow). Got to love that trigger!

Re: Tikka T3 Build Complete!

Stanwood-

On the CTR...its a stock rail and on my Varmint...it was an EGW. I have done NO trigger work...plenty of dry fire is enough to smooth the already great trigger from the factory.

I got the HSS parts directly from Australia, although now you can source then from KRG-ops.com

Re: Tikka T3 Build Complete!

I was going to do the same thing to my Tikka T3 Varmint, but changed my mind at the last minute. I was on the pre-order list and was only a week or two from delivery time. Instead, I went with the XLR Evolution chassis. Though the KRG looks fantastic, I don't regret my choice.

It would come in any way you would like it. It's a custom order stock but unfortunately the stock maker has retired already. My brother still occasionally has him make him adjustable cheekrests for his stocks but he has said he won't make complete stocks anymore.

I took a stock from Richards Microfit that was made to T3. About $200 for a rough stock that they even screwed up on the inletting and it had to be fixed. He had Lauronen (the stock maker) do the cheekrest and other stuff he did himself.

Before and after. It is still unfinished but looks a lot nicer now. If I had the space for a full woodshop I would start making some myself. With limited space and tools, it's too cumbersome to make them. The last picture is one of my own test projects on a Savage 16. I have a few more blanks that I intend to finish up nicer but without proper space/tools there really isn't enough time for it.

I don't if the below link is what you had in mind. I do believe these stocks are made by the same person (Antero Lauronen). They run about 600 euros in Finland.

The last stock in the picture is the one I was thinking of. Nice to see some worked over Tikkas. Those Richard's stocks are so far from correct I am always suprised to see one finished. Nice work.

The ones on the pictures are all custom guns. Jyri Jalonen makes his own actions as well. I think the only ones "outsourced" are the stocks. I believe he is well known for his silhouette guns.

Yep, I certainly wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Re: Tikka T3 Build Complete!

Little brother finally finished his project. Hardest part was to find a light weight scope with an image he liked. He finally settled on Swarovski Habicht 4-12x50. Main use will be bird hunting, upland and geese. I have to say I am jealous of the suppressor, 70mm length, 40mm diameter, about $150 total price (no permits needed).

Action: Tikka T3
Barrel: Lothar Walter light varmint, 6.5x55 SE
Suppressor: Jori Aaltonen custom, 7 cm length
Stock: Mauri Johansson
Scope: Swarovski Habicht 4-12x50
Bipod: Atlas

My SAKO AIII also got a new stock this Christmas.
