Tikka T3 Firing Pin dropping when slam test bolt

I have a spare older T3 barreled action laying around and ordered a barrel to make myself a second prs match rifle. I went to adjust the factory trigger down like I did on my t3x CTR and bottomed out the trigger set screw against the trigger to action mounting screw and now it's dropping the firing pin if I slam the bolt home hard. Tested my CTR with the exact same setting and its 100% and won't slam fire no matter how hard I slam the bolt. Any advise? Barreled action is a 243 from 2011 or so. Never been modified or touched until today.

Turn the screw in 1/4 turn at a time and retest until it stops. I havent had a Tikka trigger do that tirned out to the trigger screw but what I mentioned will fix it.

All triggers will do this if set too light for the design. Timney and Triggertech will do the same. This is the reason for triggers like the triggertech diamond and timney calvin elite.

Yeah I understand that if u crank them out to far they will do this but I have 3 other t3/t3x's that I have done the exact same adjustment to and never had and issue. From what I understand that when the trigger adjustment screw bottoms out against the trigger group to action screw that it's at the bottom of the the adjustment and should be safe...kinda confused but I'll keep adjusting in and maybe purchase a replacement spring to get it where I like it

Yeahhh just my luck...my first hiccup with any of my tikka's...guess I'll adapt and move on!

That’s it. Move on. Once adjusted it won’t be an issue. Test and retest. Make sure it is safe which obviously you are doing.

Are you the first owner? If not, perhaps the last owner has a lighter trigger spring in. So it’s not equal to your other fully wound down triggers.

Perhaps source a fresh factory one, or as suggested keep turning yours and retest until it stops drop firing.

Yeah original owner bought it from the local Scheels 8yrs ago or so. Only has 120rds thru it since new.

Are you sure the spring pin is inserted in the right direction ?

It would be easy to drop in backwards.
Make sure the longer side goes in first.
Might just be your trigger screwed up but it doesn't hurt to check.....

Definitely easy enough to screw up on the assembly line. I will look for sure

I needed to adjust my trigger a bit heavier because mine also fired when I slammed the bolt down. I’m a second owner and I guess that mine was too light. I made a full turn and now it’s fine! Safety first ?

I think that models without CTR magazine have a spring thingie for magazine under the trigger to action screw so that screw is a bit more out and you can’t adjust trigger as light as CTR. I thought that this problem is only related to models with CTR mag because others are impossible to adjust too light.

You are right. Without the retainer clip, the adjustment screw can back out past the trigger mounting screw. I put blue loctite on the adjustment screw and made sure it wasnt backed out past the trigger mounting screw.
