I picked up a Tikka T3 CTR and was looking for things to upgrade. I see a lot of people upgrading to a different scope base.
Which made me wonder, what exactly is wrong with the factory scope base? I see some have a recoil lug and maybe that is something to consider but the factory rail that came with my rifle has two small pins that go through the scope base into the receiver. Do they not serve the same purpose? thanks for the insight.

Unless you have a 308 I think the standard base is fine. Even with a 308 you should still be fine honestly. I have a 6.5 Creedmoor CTR and with the 0 MOA rail I still have enough elevation to get me past the supersonic limit of the rifle. Now if you plan on shooting out to 1 mile you might want a 20 MOA rail.

Went with the mdt model. It has a recoil lug and I like that feature for added protection against screws slipping under recoil.

Watched a Rex Reviews video where they talked about how common the screws slipping is and found the mdt well priced and well made.
