I am a newbie here but not new to firearms. I wanted to get a bolt gun in .308 to go with my LR-308. I ordered a Tikka T3 CTR in .308. http://www.berettausa.com/products/tikka-t3-scout-ctr/
I also have a SWFA SS 20X42 on the way. http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-20x42-Tactical-Riflescope-P502.aspx I have that scope on my LR-308 and love it. For the money it can't be beat!
I am curious to hear what your thoughts are on this set up. I will have just a hair over $1050 into it to get started. I would really love to hear from someone who owns one or has shot one.
Keep posted for a range report after everything arrives....

Re: Taking the plunge. Tikka T3 Scout CTR on order.

Welcome.
Wow.. can't beat the price on that LR308.. great snag.

I have a CTR in .223 and love it. Light, compact, smooth and accurate. Haven't tried the .308 but I'm sure it will be a shooter.

Cheers,
Hawk

Here's mine in .308!

Hope you like it. I love mine! I'm not gonna get into another rant on how much I like my KRG stock and the bolt lift its got on it now.

I put the Bushnell 3200 10x on it. Shoots awesome. 168 FGMM is a little light for a 1000k with wind though. Stepping up to 175gr Southwest although 155gr Scenars would probably have plently of FPS to reach with the 20" barrel, just not as much wind resistance.

Shot good out of the box but took about 40 rounds and a thorough cleaning to start shooting consistent though.

Nice. I was wondering what aftermarket stocks were available for it. Do you have any other pics of her?

The T4 is built specifically for the Tikka. The T2 is a R700 stock made to fit, so it isn't quite as clean, but I like the T2 better overall.

Re: Taking the plunge. Tikka T3 Scout CTR on order.

It finally came. I got the cope mounted but I think it is sitting too high. I have a set of low rings coming for it. Look for a range report early next week!!

Re: Taking the plunge. Tikka T3 Scout CTR on order.

Hey at least you're not at work! I haven't been back out with my baby in a month because I haven't had a day off! Bad thing about being able to comfortably afford my hobby is I don't get to enjoy it as much as I'd like.

Watch how hard you drive the factory stock. My would be all over the place with anything more than dead weight behind it. And the recoil pad leaves much to be desired which is one reason I changed stocks. Also check the clearance on the barrel. My stock contacted about halfway down the forend when using a bipod. Nothing a dremel can't fix.

The Varmint has a 23 3/4 inch long barrel and the scout has a 20 inch. The scout also has a different finish and Picatinny rail

Worked up a few hand loads to try out last night. I hope to get out and break this baby in tomorrow am!

Re: Taking the plunge. Tikka T3 Scout CTR on order.

Interesting choice in a fixed 20X...
I've often wondered about that choice, figuring that if the shooting is limited to maybe 200 yards or more, it may make sense.

But seems it may be too much power for shorter ranges (like 100 yds) from the standpoint of quick target re-acquisition. I have two variables, a 3.5-10, and 5-15...so no direct experience with a 20X.

Seems the variable power option is money that doesn't always need to be spent, depending on the intended use of the rifle?
