Anyone got any experience with the Tikka T3 Scouts in 308. I shoot alot of 308 primarily in an AIAW. I'm thinking about a short, lighter weight gun to shoot some shorter range field courses with. The AIAW is awesome but damned heavy and tough to pack around, especially for an old guy.

I've thought about the Rem 700 LTR but the Tikka looks like a better deal with the pic rail already on it and a detachable magazine system already part of the gun if they shoot?

Any info would be appreciated.

I'm yet to hear of a tikka with accuracy problems. They all seem to shoot, one of the best deals in out the box rifles IMHO, the good news is that aftermarket bits seem on the up.

You can get CDI to install their AICS bottom DBM on them. I am looking at a used T3 Tac 223 with 20" 1 in 8 twist. If I make the deal it is immediately headed to CDI for conversion, as the damn mag is too short for heavier bullets.
Also, TROS makes a adaptor 18x1 to 1/2x24 for my Gemtech.

I have been unable to confirm whether the t3 scout comes with a threaded barrel for a suppressor. can anyone help? thanks

I've got the .223 version. I find it to be a great rifle that is super accurate, compact and light. I know some don't like the stock but I find it comfortable not lacking anything. Sure you can get a McMillan/Manners or other stock that will be stronger and have more adjustment but you are adding weight. So depending on you purpose.. if you want a nice light and quality rifle out of the box.. I say pick on up. The bolt throw is super slick and fast. My only complaint is that I wish the bolt handle was a bit longer, but that is an easy fix. The mags are expensive but not that crazy compared to other options.. and how many do you really need? You can even upgrade to CDI bottom metal if you want to use AI mags. Also you can modify the factory mags to allow longe bullets. I did this on mine with a razor and some super glue by setting back the spacer behind the follower and adding a piece of plastic to the back of the follower. It's not pretty but it works and was a pretty easy and cheap fix. The .308 versions may not have this issue with longer bullets.

Edit: The Scout does not come with a threaded barrel. You would have to move up to the Tactical version for that.. but then you are into metric threads and about $500 more for that option. I would say get the Scout and send it out to have standard threads put on it if you need for about $100 or so. It also comes with a 0MOA rail that is nice and bedded to the recieve with what looks like AcraGlass or similar. I removed mine for a EGW 20MOA base.

Just a note on the AI mags and the Tikka .223 models. You will either have to modify the mag feed lips...or mill a bit of material out of the bottom of the receiver. The feed lips are very thick on the .223 AI mags and will not seat into the receiver without modification as mentioned above.
I went the milling route.

Take care,Stan

Re: Tikka T3 Scout Rifle 308

I just got one last week. I've been shooting a while but this is my first rifle I have owned. I have to say I love it!! Can't see any problems so far and after break in it was a tack driver. Took it out to 400 yards the second day and Could consistently hit where I wanted to. Can't really tell you group sizes because I'm a shotgun guy just now getting into the precision end of things.

Needless to say the gun easily outshines me. It's easy to carry and wield. It also has most of the features of a tactical sans the barrel and adjustable comb stock for a much lower price.

One thing to note is the recoil pad isn't all that great. Definitely felt a lot more than my friend's TRG-42 300wm. Took some getting use to.

Can't wait for the whiskey 3 chassis to come out as most of the money I saved over the tac will be to get a stock that will fit me a little better.

Re: Tikka T3 Scout Rifle 308

Hi,

I recently purchased a Tikka T3 Scout in .308. I'd like to
try a Ching sling on it which requires an extra sling
swivel stud just in front of the magazine well. At this
spot on my rifle is a little round metal (3/8"?)
circular plate sunk just a touch into the lower
handguard. This looks like it was provided exactly
for the purpose of installing another sling swivel stud.
However, before I drill into it, I'm wondering if anyone has
experience with this (or other Tikka Varmint-Style T3')
and can tell me if this is indeed the right thing to do.

Thanks,

Jon
