Tikka T3 Sporter Opinions?

My next bolt rifle needs to have the following:

1. Lefty Action
2. .260 Remington
3. .75 MOA accuracy or better

I might do a custom build, but it would require selling a few of my "collection" to fund it. I like buying guns, but I hate selling guns.

So Tikka is supposed to start offering a lefty version of the T3 sporter in .260 rem with a 24" bbl any day now, and for at least half the price of a custom build.

What's the word on the Tikka T3 in regards to real world accuracy capabilities? Anyone got one?

They're probably the most accurate out-of-the-box rifles out there for under a grand. Many are as accurate as blueprinted/trued action custom builds. I'd give it a go.

Also has a trigger that needs no work and the action is unbelievable smooth. It's also nice not having to monkey around with a scope mount.

I have one in 223 and it shoots two different factory loads at 3/4 moa. If you do a search, I think you will find there are a lot of people who rave about their accuracy. For the money, it is hard to beat if accuracy is your issue.

I was not a believer, so I bought a cheap T3 Lite in 308 and I am an absolute believer now. I have owned just about every brand of rifle of the years. It is one of the slickest actions, best out of the box trigger, and absolutely incredible accuracy for a 7 lb. rifle with a cheap tupperware stock. I can bet the sporter would be excellent!

T3 Sporter goes for $1700. A bit more expensive than the Lite.

Does that change anyone's opinion?

This is a Sako, right? I actually already have a TRG22 in 308. Its a better gun than I am a shooter, but the 308 is a bit of a let down beyond 700-800yds.

It was my intent to not make a mistake in assuming that a Tikka would perform on the same curve as its much more expensive brethren.

Tikka makes a fine rifle, although I would probably go with a Tac or a Varmint in a KRG W3 chassis over the Lammy. Just me.

With the Tikka you upgrade/ change parts because of want, not need.

T3 Varmint Stainless LH, but you may find nessy and bigfoot first.

Nope that is not a Sako , its a T3 varmint in 6,5x55 in a TRG stock.

I would see if you could find a tikka in 6.5x55 use some lapaua brass and load it full house. while not a 260 it should do the same thing. I think the sporter is way too much money to spend 1700 on. heck one could by a tikka custom barrel it and put it in a mickey stock for that.

I actually think the Sporter is worth the money, because as good as they are shooting, I cannot see what better a custombarrel would do.
As I see it it's not a benchrest gun and as it is, it's shoots far better than me.
I really like the sporter stock, it really feels like a TRG stock and it's very comfortable.
If the colours is disliked, it would be an easything to put on some duracoat.

As for calibers.
When looking at the performance, I cannot see any reason to go for .260 instead of 6,5x55.
And in the T3 case you still have the long action.

The negative side is the long mags, the 6,5 requires long mags and that makes a change to AI mags impossible.

I have choosed to stay with 6,5x55, but I live in the country of 6,5x55 and we buy wonderfull long range ammo here with 130 VLD bullets at 3000 fps for one dollar per round (Norma)
It actually makes the reloading feeling unneccesary

I have a Tikka T3 Varmint Left Hand in .243.

Although its not the same caliber your after, mine shoots under 0.5MOA all day long with cheap Norma 100 grain rounds (sure makes a mess of the Kangaroo's

)

I love the tikka's so much I have another on order now in .223 Light Left Hand which will eventually see a 300blk Barrel for Pigs.

I have one, fine shooting rifle. And as started above, the action is really smooth. It's straight up factory now, but I will be customizing it at some point. I think it is smoother than my trued R700.
