Hi guys! A new member and first post here! As a newbie (and very much still learning when it comes to scope mounting, building, products available, etc.), I wanted to get advice on the Tikka T3X TAC A1 scope mount I'm working to put together. Just purchased a Kahles K525i and a pair of Talley Tactical fixed ring scope mounts that are 1.44" high to center. I understand the picatinny rail on the Tikka T3X TAC A1 to be 0 MOA. With this scope/mount combo, would I also need to consider a 20 MOA base if I plan to practice shots at 1000 yards? One individual has told me the scope has enough MOA to dial in at 1000 yards, but wanted to check here as a "trust but verify" tactic. If I did need a base, any recommendations? Also, I'd like to point out that I do understand everyone has their opinion on scopes and mounts and all the gear out there. I totally respect everyone's opinion and the decision making process you used to get your gear. Hopefully we can keep this respectful without getting too much into "this brand is terrible" or "why did you buy that because it sucks!" Just looking for honest advice! Thanks, in advance and looking forward to the responses!

you can zero in your scope at 100 yards first. Download Ballistic app, for example Hornady 4Dof. Input your ammo BC and approximate muzzle fps for 1000 yards dial calculation. It will shown you approximately how many moa / mil you need to reach 1000 yards. Now reach for your setup to see if you are able to dial it.

20 MOA Is the best option,

you can still have a 100-yard zero and reach 1000 yards, but it will probably just reach and not go much further.

it has 29 MILS of adjustment so you can actually use a 40MOA base to get all of it, my guess is 0 MOA will get you 14 Mils off the top of my head.

@wtmyers - Thanks! I'm loving the look and feel of the rifle. Can't wait to put a few rounds through it. :) @Dave62677 - The Era-tac's look outstanding. Very cool. I may just use my Talley mounts on another gun and get the adjustable mount for the Kahles.

Any other suggestions on a 20 MOA mount? I do have the Talley scope rings that I'd like to use if I can find a 20 moa base that will fit on the current 0 MOA picatinny rail that's inherent to the Tikka

I have one and if You are going to change base You will need to check the height on the new base as compared to the factory. If You haven't pulled it off of the rifle yet be very careful as the mounting screws have some Loc Tite red or other semi perm. bond. You might need to use heat. It is a lot easier to get the MOA using rings. BTW I have Nightforce ATACR 56MM

How do you like your NightForce ATACR? It was between that and the Kahles for me.

Depending on the model,Kahles is a very little bit better on light transmission but Your eyes would not notice the difference in a variable. I just sold a couple of My S&B P11s to get Nightforce ATACR. Japanese use OHARA glass which can be speced the same as Schott and they are super build quality.

With the 44.4 Mia base (4902) it will still work, I have a S&B 5-25x56 on the same rifle and it works just barely.

I went with a 20 MOA Spuhr mount on my Tikka, with how securely Tikka puts the bases on I didn't want to mess with removing it. My USO T-Pal scope caused another issue of having enough distance between the rings, but Spuhr has so many options, they had just what I needed.

Very nice. I've got a Tac A1 and just ordered a Minox ZP5 5-25. Thinking Spuhr mount. Which one did you get?

I used Burris XTR Signature Rings to achieve roughly 30MOA of cant on my Tac A1. Didn't have to fiddle with the factory rail that way. 1.5" High, 30mm rings for my 50mm objective scope + lens caps worked well.

I am a newbie as well. I have a Tikka t3x ctr in a x-ray chassis and a ar10 in 308 . I would like to be able to swap the glass between the two rifles using a solid base . So far I am considering a sphur mount or a American defense mount both with 20 moa. Any suggestions between the two ? Any information on best height or specific model? The glass will be a S&B 3-20 ultra short with 34 mm tube and 50 mm obj lense. It's the first long range scope I have purchased and should be here this Friday!

NoggieRed, will do. Was waiting to get the scope, which just arrived, to double check measurements.
@OpenSpace:

Same setup I got on order. Let me know what Spuhr mount you went/go with. Im still awaiting the ok on my application so nothing happening here for a couple of weeks

Got the SP4603B . Perfect fit with the ZP5. Best mount I've ever used.

Okay you guys have more money than me. (Plus I am left handed!) Has anyone tried a Seekins Precision AR high version @ 1.45" with a Kahles 624i on their Tikka T3 Tac?

FYI: For those still wondering about this, if you want to go with just rings instead of something like a Spuhr with the MOA built in, EGW now has a 20MOA rail specifically for the Tac A1 chassis that replaces the factory rail, EGW part # 80512
They do, though it will not have the style of the rest of the factory rail if that were to bother anyone...
