I have a tac a1 on the way. I have a leupold vx3i-lrp 4.5-14 going on it at this time. 30mm tube 50mm objective. Are there any 20moa mounts under $200 out there. Kinda blew my budget buying this rifle. Thanks.

ADM makes some nice mounts you could check. Depending on caliber and how far you intend to shoot you may not need 20MOA. Which you could then run rings .Seekins precision rings are good. You can also get a 20 MOA rail from EGW for the Tac A1 they are kinda bitch to get the factory rail off though. I have the seekins rings on my my tac A1 at o MOA. Thought about changing out rail but for what I use it for 1000 yrds max it's fine. I will say I have a spur mount on another gun and it is very very nice. Pricey but nice.

ADM Delta throw lever mounts are sweet and you cannot beat the tried and true Accuracy International 1 piece scope mounts. I do not know why these dont get the love and respect they deserve. They are $125 new from mile high and often under 100 here. I challenge any scope mounting system that can do what it does for the same price. They were used on the AW series for years and Im sure the old videos from Todd at AI and Bill at Tacpro showing the repeatability of them.

i have a pic on my phone of the AI mount on a Tac A1 ill try to post

I looking at shooting 1500 yards max. Its 6.5 creedmoor. The scope has a total of 32mils of elevation before using the reticle. Obviously ill loose a fair amount when zeroing it. Ill look into the above mentioned mounts. Thanks

I'm at this same crossroads. What are the advantages/disadvantages to rail/rings vs unimount? The unimount seems easier as I wouldn't have to replace the rail on my TAC A1 (unless I'm way out in left field) but I've read a number of guys say rings for bolt guns vs unis for ARs. But, I've never heard anyone explain why.

Advice is appreciated. BTW, I will be mounting a Nightforce NX8 4-32 on this rifle.

Thanks!

I had replied earlier but since then switched scopes around and now am now running a Badger Ordnance 1-Piece on my TAC-A1 with good results. There is 0 MOA in this particular mount but easily get to 700 yards.

So, no issues with a one-piece vs two rings and a 20 MOA base? I don't know if it's just an old rule of thumb or whatever, but most (not all) the discussions I read recommend rings for bolt action guns. No idea why.

This is my first bolt rifle, aside from a 1931 Moisin Nagant which just lays there getting older. So, bolt rifles are a new world to me, on top of the new world of LRPS.

I think the rings for bolt actions traditional/dawn of time recommendation is based on a few things:

1) lowest height mount
2) lowest weight for hunting purposes
and maybe a bit of
3) traditional bolt action rifle receivers designed for rings not a picatinny rail

But in precision shooting weight isn't the enemy, height isn't evil and strength of scope mount is important, and extra MOA in the mount helps.
