Just got a APA G3 in the mail today. I've had a few self timing brakes, hellfire, g2 lb, and impact. I have to think I'm not the only one that gets a little obsessed with getting them level. The new G3 was easy to lock down where I wanted it but then there was 10min of trying to verify if it was level lol. I wish they came with a little flat somewhere on them to sit a small level. Anybody have tips or tricks that they use to verify levelness?

I generally eye-ball them, but I'm not OCD picky.

The Insite Arm Heathen brakes have a machined in flat on the bottom of the brake to be used with a level. Something to keep in mind if you are ever in the market for a new brake. They are my favorite self timing brake, and the most refined one out there IMO.

My AI brake has a nice big flat spot that I put a small level on. Without that I’d make sure the gun is level at the action and just eye ball the brake in relation to the action rail.

I feel ya on the installation of the APA. When installing my LB G2 the flats on the nut really threw me off when trying to see if it was level or not.

Shooting is an activity where you learn through experience what “is” important to you and what “is not”. My experience has taught me that having a brake “dead-nuts” level has little to do with how I shoot or manage recoil. Like others, I eyeball the ports from the top of the rifle to see if the reveal looks equal and call it good. I seriously doubt that anyone can shoot the difference if the brake is off 1-2 degrees.

I just eye it. Then immediately stop looking at it. Even if you build up a fancy contraption then how do you know there was no run out in the tools. If it looks good enough that’s all that should matter. probably get these a lot closer then anything with a crush washer or none self timing ever was.
