Gunsmithing Timney trigger installation issue?

Just installed a Timney 512 trigger in my 5R Milspec.

The installation was fairly painless, and I even managed to bend the bolt release tip into the proper position on the first try.

After reassembling the rifle, I noticed that the trigger would not reset about half the time. Further investigation revealed that the trigger was touching the bottom metal on the right (bolt handle) side of the rifle.

I loosened the two floorplate screws, and found that if I moved the trigger to the left side of the gun, then torqued the screws, the trigger would move back to the right side but not quite enough to touch the bottom metal.

My concern is that upon firing, the action may shift and the trigger will bind on the right side again (as this seems to be where it naturally wants to line up).

Is it common practice to have to do what I just did? Do these stocks (Rem factory H-S Precision) normally hold the action in place without shifting (side to side) once it's torqued down?

Re: Timney trigger installation issue?

After a trip to the range today, I have some answers.

Everything held up just where I positioned it. Since the Timney trigger is wider than the stock Remington trigger, you have to keep the action centered while torquing the stock screws - something to keep in mind if you install one of these.

Other than that, the 1.5 pound Timney is a big improvement over the stock X-Mark Pro.
