Maggie’s 'Tis but a scratch

A bunch of years ago, I was in Northern Iraq... well, well before 2003. In fact more than a decade before. The Kurds in some areas, describing their situation, used a word that sounded like "Ee-pres... ee-pres... ee-pres." Took a few minutes to realize that they were saying "Ypres, Ypres, Ypres..." The site of the original gas attacks in WW1. I wasn't an historian then, just a 20-something out of my depth in some ways... in a faraway land. But my grandfather had been at Ypres (and not gotten so much as a scratch... the lucky bastard) but I knew what the word meant after a few minutes of confusion. We were able to put 2+2 together and realize that they were talking about being gassed. Town was called Halabja. The attacks had taken place about three or four years earlier.

Some of the Kurds knew Western History better than most kids today... and used the name "Ypres" to describe being gassed with a mixture of mustard gas and Tabun. Possibly Sarin. But it was the blister agents -- the mustard gas -- that caused the worst scars. And they knew exactly what happened in France in 1915. And knew what happened to themselves.

Oh and to see the scarred up kids and mass grave sites... noone can tell me that Saddam didn't have Chemical Weapons. He rained them down like confetti.

You don't need mainstream media to tell you that these scumbag dictators will gas their own people in a heartbeat. Real news, hidden behind whining about fake news...

I'd say "Cheers" but the topic doesn't deserve it. Some people deserve a bullet. Most of these dictators are in that category. Did I mention that the Church Committee were all scumbags.
