Has anyone used them? I'm looking at the Murphy Precision stuff and it's got me thinking about giving it a try.

They make a base for my 338 in titanium. Sounds cool but I'm not into trendy bling, however I do like to try different products.

Re: Titanium Rings and Base

I don't see what problem this is solving. I don't recall quality aluminum rings having any issues with durability, so titanium is just going to add weight. Just my opinion.

Also, having aluminum bases, rings, and scope tubes should theoretically help in that the coefficient of thermal expansion should be very similar between them all. This changes when you have titanium bases and rings, but an aluminum scope tube.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think titanium bases and rings are just a marketing ploy.

Re: Titanium Rings and Base

Titanium is new. That's the only real reason it drifts into applications where you don't actually utilize it's properties and you get the erroneous "stronger than steel" marketing.

Re: Titanium Rings and Base

Yes, I have matching titanium rings and bases from Murphy Precision. Pretty awesome stuff.

My titanium base is so hard yet light. My titanium rings was so light I thought there must be a mistake at first. Yet it has held my 72mm Zeiss scope on my 300 Win Mag securely with no slipping.

Cameron Murphy even cut my titanium rings at a custom height so my 72mm scope can work properly with my XLR stock.

Re: Titanium Rings and Base

You do realize titanium is heavier than aluminum? They shouldn't feel strangely light compared to typical aluminum bases.

That said, if there is a market for titanium items and someone capitalizes on that corner of the market, good on them. You'll make a profit and gain happy customers so it's win-win.

Re: Titanium Rings and Base

Helidriver using Cameron Murphy's titanium base and rings on a dedicated FT/R rifle. Do they save me any weight over Seekins aluminum rings and base, no not really, are they a little stronger, yes probably. Do they save me a little weight over steel, yes and are as equally strong. But how they work for me is that Cameron custom made my base, so not only do I have a 100 yard zero but have ample elevation with my NF 12-42 to get out past 1000. Has Cameron created a custom niche with these titanium rings and bases, yes he has, and the quality is outstanding and he can customize his rings and bases to your need. Running Seekins on my practical rifles, they haven't failed me despite going through some abuse.
