YES! If you have a good gunsmith they will slug the barrel to make sure they cut the crown in the tightest roundest spot.
If a barrel is properly taper lapped, there is really not a "tightest roundest spot". For one thing, it's damn hard to tell by measuring the slug for roundness. I really question most anyone that says they can accurately do it. With the exception of about an inch on each end, the slug will very steadily push from breach to muzzle and evenly "let go" when reversed from muzzle to breach. Obviously, don't push it out when going back and forth on it. It's much easier to tell after the first time in. I personally lap all of my barrels if they are not evenly tapered, and yes, I know most people won't be able to do this. All of the Muller barrels Paul has lapped I have used and most of the Shilen Ratchets I have done lately have checked very even. I checked and chambered 30 Shilens last week and every one of them was pretty good. Good enough that I didn't send it back or take to lapping it myself. I take an inch off the breach and then chamber/thread/finish that end. I then pick my length and cut and crown the other end, making sure to take at least 1.25 inches off. I have very specific lengths at near 24 and 25 that I cut all my barrels to.

Let's see has Mikey bush even shot a registered match NO! Has Mikey ever even shot a br match NO. Does Mikey know what it takes to build a winning gun or action NO! You can run your mouth all you want Mikey I show up and shoot no matter the conditions. You just run your mouth without even shooting ina match. How can someone who has never even shot a br match make a action? Well looks like they can't actually. Mikey here's the difference between you and I, I know what it takes to win you on the other hand have zero clue. I won South carloina overall in 2020 club and state and was in the top 30 last year in agg. Let's see scores from last week wind was blowing 20 to 25 oh and I won with high target and x count in that shit. You have no idea what it takes week in and week out to be competitive in br. My goal when I came into this was never to try and compete on a national level I don't have the finances these guys throw at this sport,so I compete locally as do a lot of other shooters. I don't have finances to chase ammo all the time and that's what it takes dumbass. Since you have zero clue you wouldn't know that. I shoot well over a 100+ targets a year what do you do Mikey besides flap your gums about shit you have no idea about. Mikey you talked shit to the br crowd from the beginning that's why you haven't ever been liked by them. So please watch my scores all season, casue I will be right there competing. Anyone that has been paying attention knows that "Mikey" has said for quite a long while, in writing and elsewhere, that "Mikey" has no interest in shooting BR and isn't and will never be a BR shooter. But what "Mikey" doesn't do is show up on the internet as a Caped Crusader of Benchrest, downing everyone else while in reality, you're a window licker at the few local matches you've actually shot. You say, You have no idea what it takes week in and week out to be competitive in br," and apparently you don't either. Is the weirdly warm weiner water cozy? BTW, that first score above is 13th out of 17 shooters....yep, you're competitive, Sammy (pats on head).
Maybe you should now temper your posts a bit around people that are here to contribute to something and maybe people will actually start to like you. You're a pathetic representation of BR and you have the power to change that....

So my attention isn't 100% on every target as it should be. Why don't you pull up all my scores and look. Now that I take care of both mine and my father's guns it's hard to do well all the time. Are all of my targets perfect hell no I never said they were. Mike, remember, you represent the people who work at Vudoo Gun Works on the Forums. Thanks for working to inject a bit of reason Larry, and from a narrow perspective, you're exactly right. But from the larger picture, you've not yet scratched the surface. I'll start by saying, if I hadn't represented what I have here for nearly 20 years, Vudoo wouldn't exist and the great people there wouldn't have a job....I also represent and stand up for the community here.
Business owners that are too afraid to defend what they've worked for and the community that supports it aren't being true to why the business exists in the first place; instead, they're held hostage by it. Vudoo has thrived because of my presence here and because of the mindset of the SH community. My position on this, along with my appreciation for the SH community, will never change.
Additionally, you're echoing something that I find very interesting. First off, I'm not here to win arguments as I'm well aware of what the internet is all about. The interesting thing is, from within the shooting community, when "winning" an argument on the internet is mentioned, it's generally mentioned by someone from the RFBR community. Please know that I'm not taking a shot at you by saying that. I'm saying it because there's a lot of available data that supports the comment and this thread was used as an illustrative tool. All one needs to do now is think a little bit about what I've said in the past and why I said it....

I don't know if you are the sole reason for Vudoo existing, and advancing RFBR, but I'll take your word for it. What I can tell you from my perspective is that the dialog you and Sam are in is not in the best interest of either of you, or the community at large. Both of you were out of line, in my opinion, and I've shared that thought above to both you and Sam, and also in a PM to Sam. Let's focus on facts and not personal attacks and on-line arguments. Mike, can you provide an update on the V22s firing pin design? I know VGW started working on the crescent style, and has moved back to the chisel shape. Any future plans to look into any new designs, or revisit the crescent to help with ignition?

Now that bedlam has mostly passed, I'll extend an apology to the community here for what has transpired for the last couple days. I was enjoying some peace and quiet but was continuing to receive outreach from numerous people here, not all of whom were Vudoo customers, about what was happening. I realize that business owners have to walk a fine line; one side of that line is trusting that most see through the bs, but the other side is offering up validation and approval in silence. I stepped in because there was an appeal from people I support asking me to step in. For those that aren't aware, SH has played a major role in the success and adoption of what we do. For that, I will always remain grateful and obliged to serve.
I choose to believe that most will understand what I'm saying and from others, I'll take a few hits, but the hits have been and will likely always be temporary and worth it in the long run.
