Take it for what it is worth and that is a grain of salt,

Anytime I hear "The 76" or "The 113" or something like that, I know where you came from and I might not be too "friendly."

I do believe it is a Cali. thing, just the everyday vernacular they use out there. We never speak that way around here.

It will be, "Take Highway 14, or I 76 or US 6 and be on your way." We never use "The", in front of any road number.

Maybe a regional change? but it does let me know where you came from and it ain't from around this area.

Ahhhhhh. Now I get it.

Texas does seem to have some good highways overall. There are some rough sections here and there but I do think they have a rather good Mtc. plan overall.

A bit of advice, Don't refer to any Interstate or any other highway as "The 10" "The 410" you pick the number for any road, just don't put "The" in front of it.

That alone will identify you as a "Cali" and you don't want that.

I am always helpful towards anyone needing directions, until, they ask me something like, "Should I take "The 76" or go down "The 14?"

Suddenly, I know nothing. It's a California thing and lets any Native know where you are from.

Yes sir.

I remember my first time in SoCal as an adult. I had just moved to San Diego from the east coast for one more training command before reporting to my first ship in Long Beach.

The first time someone told me how to get someplace I was like WTF? The 5, the 10, the 805............I had no idea what they were saying until it dawned on me that they were talking about interstates. BTW, "freeway" is a californicator thing too. I had never heard the term until I got there. Before then it was always interstate, or highway, or parkway, or beltway.

One piece of advise now that you are in TX and that is take time to learn the weather and it’s patterns. April in TX can be interesting and put stock in the “green sky”. Texas is a huge state so you think there is plenty of time to get ready for weather. That is not always the case. Things converge and develop quickly here in Texas.
