Fieldcraft Tomahawks

Re: Tomahawks

I grabbed a cold steel trench hawk off of a prize table and was pleasantly suprised. The grind was pretty clean and reasonably sharp out of the packaging. I am not a big fan of the spike on the back, I think a flat strike face would be more versatile but overall it has wormed its way into my car kit.

Recently I was doing some demolition for a remodel and I broke it out to see how it would do for overall cutting, prying and generally breaking stuff. The handle rould bend a little when doing heavy prying but it always returned to shape and was no worse for wear.

Re: Tomahawks

I was skeptical of my RMJ Tomahawk when I first got it (it was free). I figured it was just an ordinary Tomahawk before researching who they actually were. I've come to use it quite a bit overseas. It is some high class stuff seems it hold its edge pretty good and can take a beating.I would have to say you get what you pay for when it comes to RMJ.

Re: Tomahawks

If you want tough and long lasting, and light and useful, I'd look into some of those specialty moutain climbing firms. They use spectacular metals and can make 'em so light you forget you have it. I know this one place has one with interchangeable heads; it is really an ice axe but with more "options" and with a titanium handle. Sorry, I forget all the names, but that is where to look. They take gear seriously, so no tacticool there.

Re: Tomahawks

multi thousands in rifles, scopes and ammo, the latest cammo, range finders, spotting scopes, wind temp and barametric pressure computer. not sure where a hawk fits in. i sometimes hit the backwoods with a .62 calib smoothbore flintlock musket, canvas bedroll and flint and steel. now a good hawk fits this outfit along with a good knife. not sure where this primitve weapon/tool fits in with the first mentioned gear.i,d just get a modern belt hatchet and be done with it.

Good leather sheath, just below an between your shoulder blades that is held closed on the bottom via spring "C" clips sewed into the sheath on a 45* angle. The spring "C" clips can be had from most any hardware store.

With a Tacticool Kydex sheath of course! A buddy made this for me, works really well. I can run and jump fences with it and never have an issue with it coming out or sticking me. Rotates out and slips back in.

Re: Tomahawks

Consider Stiletto tools. Ask for Mark.
They had Tiger Force test and evaluate some Titanium breaching tools, sent a couple of them with the team in 2006.
He might consider a Titanium T-hawk. Ooh, that works, TI-hawk.
I'm a fricken genius.

I recieved one of these awhile ago ( of all things as a wedding gift

) and recently decided to throw it in my patrol bag. (I'm kinda a "what if" guy) It has been amazingly handy from prying and chopping to hammering. Tonight I used it to remove a dead deer from a roadway. The rear spike makes a handy hook and never had to touch the stinkin thing! Its now a permanent addition to my patrol bag!
