Too hard on gear?

I’ve realized recently that I have a tendency to be quite hard on my gear. Im wondering if it’s reasonable wear and tear or if I’m crossing into obnoxious, unnecessary abuse territory. For instance, I bought this MDT ESS a couple of months ago and have already beat it up pretty good. The mag well area is chewed up from barricades and lots of reload practices. In addition I seem to have taken a lot of cerakote off of this chassis in a fairly short time period, especially on the rail and base. Just wondering if this is fairly normal for a field rifle or if perhaps I need to take it a bit easier on the rifle. I’ve seen a lot of chassis’ and rifles by following other shooters on Instagram and they all look brand new for the most part. Once again, I’m beginning to wonder if I’m crossing into the territory of being careless or if this is actually normal for a gun being used a lot.

Looks normal for a gun used a lot. I've guns in my safe I'm very careful with for various reasons. Sentimental collectors, mostly. Then there are the working and competition guns. They look like that.

Cosmetics! Nothing a little rattle can love can't fix, as long as function and accuracy aren't impaired nothing to worry about. If you actually live life you end up with a few scars and dings, a rifle should also reflect that; it's called wear and tear, or character. Shoot that rifle and be proud of all the character marks.

There a tool, just like a wrench or a hammer. If you want them to stay looking like new don't use them. But if you work them hard they will show wear, but always remember to keep your tools maintained. Clean and oil them and they will last you a lifetime. If you buy good tools.

Not at all careless in my book looks like someone who shoots a lot I like it! Some people treat guns like art work and some like tools there is no right or wrong just personal choice....my soft case has sand all over outer shell, shit stain from cow and sun bleached. I'll put a pic of my gasser up here later it's not abused, but I don't give a consideration to 'this might make a mark' I just put it to the task of what I need. The hand guard looks like a cheese grater went after it, grip has a few bang marks, rail is all scratched up shiny from swapping day glass/thermal and mag well much like yours from fence posts etc. Use that thing! I mean if it can take being banged around by guys using it save their lives in mil/leo I think it will endure whatever I put it through. I've only broken one thing on a firearm from 'abuse' and that was a BCM swivel stud adapter that got sheered off from 308 recoil on a fence post.....boo hoo $15!
