Took a noobie shooting today

Friend of ours said she wanted to learn to shoot because I talk about it a lot and she said it sounds like fun. I don't know that I talk about it _a lot_, but it does come up from time to time.

Anyway, spent about 2 hours today going over safety and the basics so she can load/unload single and double action revolvers, semi-autos, rifles, carbines and pump and over/under shotguns (I have no semi-auto shotguns, how did I overlook that??).

With the dry practice out of the way we went to the local range for some live fire. We started with my Kimber with a .22 kit on it, and after about 100+ rounds of that she wanted to switch to the .45 so I swapped slides and she put 40 rounds down range before declaring she was done.

Not too bad at all for someone who's never fired a weapon before, she managed to keep them on the target and deal with a few malfunctions (still haven't found a .22 ammo that my Kimber .22 kit likes). I'm still shocked she did so well with the .45, not because girls can't shoot 1911s, but because untrained people with small hands and scrawny arms usually don't do well with the full size stuff.

Her only complaint for the day was that the guys at the range weren't cute. Sorry, that's not something I pay attention to.

I took my two older boys to the pistol range today. Shoot a 9 and a .40. Both did real well. My dad picked up his beretta96 today to. He quickly found out that you don't have your thumb above the bottom of the slide.

My dad still does that, he's a slow learner. He was USAF though, I don't think his desk had a slide.
