I wanted to pass on a great place to shoot just North of Dallas (East of McKinney) in Leonard, TX. Top Gun Shooting Club has a shooting range that goes out to 500 yards, with berms at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 500 yards. I've been shooting out there for several months. Each time I go, Terry the owner, has new improvements to the facility. They have lots of covered benches, and an elevated area to shoot prone. At each distance, there is target boards and steel to shoot, and 500 yards has a large gong to ring. If you plan to shoot further than 100 yards, bring enough ammo to qualify at each distance before being allowed to go to the next berm. You will need to put 2 rounds on steel at each distance to go to the next distance. Terry wants to insure that rounds are impacting the berms, and staying on the property. Cease fires are about every 30 minutes or when new targets need to be put up. The range is suppressor friendly. They are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I highly recommend Top Gun, and the short drive is well worth it!

Yup, been there. Good Place. I still have to meet his buddy he keeps telling me about that can seemingly shoot 1.5 inch groups at 500 at will...

Re: Top Gun Shooting Club- near McKinney, TX

See, I thot it was probably Chad...

Not sayin it cant be done of course. Hell, Ive lucked into it a couple times. But the 'oh-he-just-flops-down-and-shoots-an-inch-and-a-half-group' thing raises my antennae a little.

Nice guy, nice range tho. And has far reaching plans for more stuff out there.

Hey John,

Yes, there is a guy that has a 6.5x47L that is a hammer. I've seen several groups under 2" with it. He's a super nice guy. It is definitly possible. I have shot a 1 3/8", 4 shot group at 600 yards with my 260. So, I know it's doable.

He can't find his ass with two hands and a flashlight. Why do you think his geographical knowledge would be any better?

LMAO!! That's as bad as the guy behind me in the line at Spring Creek BBQ complaining that there are not enough vegitarian selections. I almost lost it!

Re: Top Gun Shooting Club- near McKinney, TX

Please post if you guys get a shoot together. I am within driving distance. Strangely enough though, I am in Colorado as I write this. I haven't seen any ranges unless he is referring to shooting on the ski slopes. That would make for some interesting angle corrections.

Can we go in your squad car?

Re: Top Gun Shooting Club- near McKinney, TX

Went to Top Gun today, the guys are very nice. I was the only one to shoot in the 23mph wind. Still managed to get some okay groups at 500 yards. I'm pretty new to shooting at distances like this, so it was a butt load of fun.

Re: Top Gun Shooting Club- near McKinney, TX

Here is an update for those who haven't been out there for awhile. They have made quite a few updates to the place.
<ul style="list-style-type: disc">[*]Extended the berm so it can now fit up-to 8-10 shooters. Also it is wider so taller people don't have their feet hanging off the back.[*]Put a fixed cover over the bench shooting area.[*]Added 4 inch swinging steel plates @ 200 yards.[*]Added 8 inch, 6 inch, and 4 inch swinging steal plates @ 500 yards.[/list]
Overall the changes make it much more enjoyable to shot out there.

Re: Top Gun Shooting Club- near McKinney, TX

Been out there over a dozen times in the past year and 1/2. Terry is very friendly and versed in long range shooting. Glad to hear the prone berm has been enlarged. Last couple of times out there, we had more prone shooters than bench shooters.

Re: Top Gun Shooting Club- near McKinney, TX

I went there today and a couple of weeks ago. Nice place for a new long range shooter like me to practice. I was qualified to 500 yards today with the 700 308. A lot of fun and nice folks running the place. They have a good setup for paper and steel.

Re: Top Gun Shooting Club- near McKinney, TX

Plan to go out there this weekend. Will post pics if possible. LOTS of improvements since the old photos above. Great range, ran by great people. And the shooter mentioned above is named Lloyd. I saw him shoot a sub 1.5" group of 5 at 500 yards. His 6.5x47 Lapua is a scalpel and he is a surgeon. Incredible.
