HARD nay from me, unless you're trying to clean something like a Mosin Nagant barrel that has been used with corrosive ammo. The obvious difference between shotgun and rifle barrels is... rifling. There's really just not much in a shotgun barrel that can be screwed up by using something that aggressive. Sure, you might scratch the bore of the shotgun barrel, but you're not likely to really alter the way it shoots... the same cannot be said of a rifle barrel.
I don't even like to use brass/bronze brushes in my barrels if I can help it... between better living through chemistry (read: proper solvent selection) and use-only-as-necessary bore paste/polish on a bore mop, my barrels get as clean as they need to. Also note that as Dave T mentioned above, I don't let them get filthy before I clean them.
