Rifle Scopes Tract Toric 30mm UHD 4-20 ffp

That is great news, I really like the Toric 4-20x50, just wish it didn't weight 34oz! But with a well implemented tree reticle, it will be a more compelling offering for sure. If the 30mm weighs 34oz I shudder to think of what a 34mm version might weigh but I also realize a lot of shooters don't really care about the weight, I'm one of the minority who prefers lighter weight optics.

this will b on my short list to buy as soon as that MRAD tree reticle comes out. I've heard nothing but good about the scope itself. From all reports, the schott glass used is superb. I can even live with the 30mm tube , just have to use the right scope base. Really look forward to this

I wished they would come out with a 4-20 in the same size and weight of their 3-15 and add a tree reticle. I'd probably have one on every hunting rifle.

I currently have one on hand I’m testing to see if It will have a forever home with me. The glass is stunning period for any price point. (Makes me think the Toric Schott glass binoculars are probably one of the best purchases period). I’m having some slight issues with the locking turrets on mine, but the owner has been extremely responsive and will replace at any time. I bought this scope to possibly go on a rimfire setup, and honestly if it weren’t for the limited elevation it would be a shoe in compared to some other high end glass I’m putting it up against.

You really need to look through this thing to believe the glass your getting at that price point. My hat is off to Jon and Jon

With a 50y parallax not sure if it's the best for rimfire, but I agree, the glass is very impressive for the price. Hopefully their new tree reticle will be of the .2 mil variety and not be too busy. One of the best $1k scopes out for sure.

My bad, I was looking at the scope next to it in my spreadsheet, you're right, it does go to 25y. True it only has 20 mil of elevation, but for most of today's cartridges that's more than enough to get out well beyond 1000. With a good .2 mil tree reticle it could be very compelling for rimfire and long range, the one I had tracked true for my purposes out to 1000 yards.

I like the new PRS MRAD reticle, it has alot of similarities to the Vortex EBR-7 which has become my personal favorite reticle. I think that their non-christmas tree reticle is near perfect for a hunting/teaching reticle. I have a couple friends and my wife who I am helping get comfortable to shoot longer range for hunting and they get lost in my EBR-7 reticle with all the hashes. Its much easier to have a reticle with .5 MRAD hashes and talk someone onto a windhold with that than a .2 hash reticle. I have grown to appreciate the utility of the EBR-7 and reticles like the Toric PRS MRAD for myself but it can be a little intimidating to someone who is learning the game. I am planning another build and a version of this scope may get the nod. I wish it was lighter though. Sub 30 oz would make it a near perfect optic for my needs.

Damn, now I’ve gotta decide if the Razor Gen 2 is really worth $500 more. That $500 buys you:

(Possibly) A little better glass
A little better turret feel/quality
6mm more objective diameter
7x more power on top
34mm tube
A better eyebox
A worse color
Almost another pound of weight

This is a tough call. I love both reticles. I like the additional power up top and the larger objective a lot, but $500 buys a lot of long range practice and it’s not like I’m not competing...

I don't know, Athlon has a strong line up. From the reviews they have been getting on the conus btr, ares btr, ares etr, midas tac, they seem very well put together even though all but the cronus is china made but according to a guy on youtube that some don't like (rex reviews) he contacted Athlon and found out some very interesting details on his last initial review which was the midas tac, he is also reviewing the conus btr and ares etr. In reviews the tracking has been very very good, reticles and illumination very functional/effective and spot on, the same stainless steel turret mechanism is in the models specified, (although not sure about the ares btr). All at a very good price point and weight, the cronus btr is less weight with a 34mm tube than the tract, I was going to buy the tract but the it just didn't tickle my fancy for what options and weight. I'm wanting to buy a few scopes yet and two for sure will be the midas tac unless the ares btr gets a reticle like the midas tac or conus btr.

Koshkin, have you reviewed/handled any Athlons? What your thoughts on them if you did?

The tract is probably going to have better glass than most of athlons stuff.

I'm not a huge fan. I had a 4-29 that had a tracking issue and a cheaper scope not sure of the model have an ocular and parallax issue. I much rather stick with Tract.

Cronus BTR’s pretty much have all the bugs worked out of them. Better turrets, tracking etc etc.
However, I really want the Toric and one will be going on my AR10 build

Nice thing about the Toric is it's gray and matches my Bergara HMR Pro nicely, haha.

So to revive an old thread, but the Toric scopes have been out for a while now. What's the scoop? Who's loving them? Who's having problems with them?

I will say, I have a Tract 22 FIRE and find it to be wonderful in both optics (for the price), turret feel (for the price), and it just works. I do wish the zoom started at 1.5x or 2x for a 22LR rifle, but whatever. Notably, I tried a Hawke scope before it and it was a complete piece of junk for a higher price. I mean, what a piece of garbage. I send it back losing $40 in shipping fees at least, let alone they mystery decision if EABCA will charge me a 20% restocking fee on an unmounted scope.

I'm heavily leaning toward a Cronus or Tract - both made in Japan. I've recently decided I'm done buying stuff from China just to save a buck. Obviously can't avoid it everywhere but I know I can wait longer and save longer and really I should be doing this to support the concept of people getting paid a fair wage, which is simply not the case in China.

Unfortunately, I can't touch either of these for myself. So interested in any updates on the two?

Sirboom-I have the TORIC 30MM PRS model and it’s fantastic. They also just released a 4.5-30x56 TORIC with a 34MM tube for $1,800 if I remember correctly. It’s a beefy scope with large turrets that’s easy to adjust and the glass is better than most big name manufacturers in its price range. Their customer service is also superb online as you can’t live chat with one of the owners of the company.

I'm also looking at the Mavin RS.4 that's on presale and the Bushnell Elite Tactical DMR II that's on clearance new. Really like the turret knurling and overall clean design ove the Mavin. Reticle on it is... good enough. Arg. I was going to get an Arken Optics scope but... Made in China. Great scope, but not this time.

I’ve have had Tract 4-20x50’s on two of my heavy use rifles for the last two years and they are performing great. They could use a little wider FOV but beyond that I have been very happy with them. I also had a Bushnell HDMRii which I traded. The glass on the HDMR was okay but the Tract is much better. The Tract glass is more comparable to the Bushnell XRS I have. My one huge gripe about the HDMRii for me was the magnification ring. It was so difficult to turn that turning your magnification up or down while you are behind the gun and staying on target is basically impossible even with the throw lever. Just about every one of the HDMR’s I’ve tried is the same. Another gripe is the parallax only goes down to 75 yards so if you did want to put it on a rimfire at some point it isn’t a good option. All the controls on the Tract are fantastic. The Maven looks like an interesting option but looking at the available reticles none of them are useable for me so it wouldn’t be an option for me.

For the money I really don’t think there is a better option out there. Just look at how many you see on the PX. I have probably sold at least 6-8 scopes on the PX in the last two years but I wouldn’t consider selling my Tract optics. I think I have seen a grand total of 3 Tract scopes on the PX in the last two years. I will also add that just about everyone who has got behind one of my Tract scopes has bought one. That alone tells me a lot. While they don’t have show rooms or anywhere you can go to se them anyone in the MD/VA/PA/DE area who wants to get behind one can send me a PM. I’m always looking for a reason you go to the range and you are more than welcome to meet me at a range and give one of mine a try. If I sound like a fan boy I will admit I am on some level. Jon and Jon are great guys and have some great optics.
