Running a Savage 10FCP in Choate tactical, Sightron SIII 8-32x56 on top. 15lbs
I am contemplating trading it in on a Long Range Precision in 260rem. This will end up still being 15lbs
My brother works for Federal Cartridge, so I use their rounds, and now that they are coming out with a gold medal round in 260, utilizing 142SMK, I am contemplating making this jump.

Why do it: Target action, Target accutrigger, HS precision stock (though I'd rather have their tactical), and most of all, better ballistics.

Option 2: Send the 308 to GAP, cut to 18", badger FTE.

Ultimately what I'm looking for, a gun I can occasionally take to 1000 yards, often shoot at 600. A gun I will coyote hunt with, I only have 1 rifle, I yote hunt with my 308 now.

So, I would like the ability to hit, say the 6" boiler room zone of a coyote at 600 yards 9/10, 10/10 times. I realize this is on me.

Will my 308 do this, I believe so, will the 260 do it better, I believe so.
Cost to do the mod and to switch guns is pretty damn even.

What say you? Yes, these are the only options I'm looking at currently.

Re: Trade the 308 in?

Nothing wrong with your 308 it will do what you want. However the 260 will do it all better with less recoil. If cost of ammo is a major concern then the 308 has an advantage. Consider that you can currently get 308 FGMM for $18-$20. If cost is not your major concern which sounds like the case then the 260 is an outstanding choice. I have 2 260’s and tend to pull them out of the safe before the 308. 260 ammo and component prices may never get as low as the 308, but new options on brass (Lapua) and factory loads make it much easier to choice. If you choose the 260 make sure you have a fast enough twist to stablilze the heavy bullets.

Less recoil for long shooting sessions is always a good thing. If your anything like me, you might as well write the check now because you won't sleep until you have the new toy.
