trainer stocks.

So here is the plan. I manly shoot a bushmaster varmint special however I enjoy shooting 22 alot. I plan to get into a new bolt gun soon but would like to get a feel for the stock I'll be using.

Right now I have a rem 597 which I love very much. my question is dose anyone make a stock to the specs of a B&C A2 or A3 that fits the rem 597 or even a 10-22?

I did a search to no avail so any help would be great. Would like to get comfortable with this stock before getting one for my howa or rem 700.

I would also consider an AICS as long as the LOP, size and weight is about right.

I also might consider buying another 22 if the price of the stocks are right but would rather use the rifles I already have.

AICS is heavy... and forget about getting an AICS trainer unless your willing to go the extra mile to customise it to fit a 40x

Thats sweet- need to save sum to get that - how is that new boyd's tacticool- no great feature like the b C but it might fit budget better right now

Might want to try an contact chris wallis he might be able to make you a stock. He makes stocks for savage and 10/22 not sure if he has done anything else but would bet he might be willing..great guy

I just got a email from him today. My stock will be done in about 2 weeks. He has been great to deal with. I can't wait to get mine.

223 is cheap enough i don't worry about it. and when i shoot 223 i am at a 500 yard range but when i am at home and only have 200 yards i want a 22 that will be like the bolt gun i will be building

I am currently having a 22 trainer bilt on a cz 452 action
with a mcm A5 stock pretty sure you could get one inlete'd for 10/22 ??

good excuse for anther rifle if they don't

I love mine. If you can find one I would recommend it as it is very economical.

With that said, you stated you wanted it to be a trainer for the bolt gun you are building. What are you building? My opinion is that you would want your "trainer" to be as close to the real thing as possible.

I built out a 10/22 and it is fun, but in order to get a trainer for my 700 in an AICS, I bought a 40XB and will soon have that in an AICS as well.

OK, I'm going out on a limb here but I just got a Remington 504 HB. I put a MIL/MIL Weaver scope form Midway ($299.99) and I'm off. Its a later model up in the 9000's and shoots great with Walmart Federal. 22BR results? No. But 3/4" at 50 without really trying is enough. Weights 8.5 lbs without scope.

I love this thing.

Vux, that is a good start; but with decent ammo you should be going one ragged hole instead of 3/4" groups at 50. You say it is "enough," but enough for what?

Not trying to be a jerk, please let me make my point... the point of a trainer is to teach your body, mind, finger, etc... to go on automatic when on the line. Good accuracy of a true trainer is imperative to me because if the gun is shooting all over the place; how would I know what to correct? I could be evoking bad habits in my muscle memory.

no fear of hijacking mate. valid questions always welcome. I had looked at getting a tacticool but haven't been able to find much information how the size and feel of them is.

the bolt manipulation isn't a big deal to me. I think that getting the feel of the rifle (fit wise) is most important. also money is still a concern right now so buying a 40X for how much?? is out of the question.

Which is exactly why I was asking what you are building. If you are building something in an AI style set up, then your options for a 1 to 1 trainer are limited without heavy modification to an AICS and/or action. If a McMillan Style stock will be used then options for both real and "knock off" stocks and actions expand to include the Ruger 10/22 with a Tacticool stock as well as many other options.

PS: I understand about the money issue... I bit the bullet this AM and ordered another AICS from Mile High for my 40X. $2K goes really fast if you're not careful.

when i get my bolt gun done I'll be using a B&C A2 or A3 hook.

although noting says a trainer has to be 22. I could get a 223 bolt gun and put the same stock on it.

You are right about the purpose of a trainer. One hole is desired and my 6.5 Lapua will do it. I wasn't trying very hard when I started shooting this. Just trying to get it on paper. While I have access to the likes of Wolf Match, at $6.42/bx, I wanted to keep the budget in check. I'm pretty happy with the 40gr Federal I get at the local Wally World. There are about 5 things that were recommended for the 504. Adjusting the trigger was all I did. The groups have come down. Considering the reputation this rifle has, the word "groups" is saying something. Glass bedding may be in its future and perhaps head spacing on a CCI Minimag (any 504 shooter know about that). Right now I'm going to put a few bricks down range and reassess.

I was fortunate to have known Uzi Gal. He was asked at the NRA convention back in the 1980's about his thoughts on a particular pistol. He replied "I don't know yet, I've only fired a few thousand rounds through it."

One thing for sure about the 504...I love the way it feels. I have several quality .22s, Cooper, Kimbers of Oregon, Anschutzs, and Ruger 77/22s and 10/22's. None of then fit me like the 504. Its too bad that Remington made, or makes makes depending on you taste, fine .22 rifles...too bad they can't make a decent magazine worth a nickle.
