If I'm not mistaken, the IOC specifies a maximum testosterone level for transgender female athletes that is very, very low (something like 10ng - or about 1/50th of a male of similar age). So the he/she in question is certainly undergoing hormonal "therapy" and thus is probably a solid 10-15% weaker compared to his/her transition.

The big question currently surrounds the other advantages that one may have by starting off as a male and then chemically castrating him/herself. Certainly, a trans woman has a substantially larger skeleton, and despite the loss of muscle caused by lower T levels, he/she almost certainly has a substantial advantage in anaerobic power output (which is substantially useful in an event such as track cycling or running sprints, but much less so in events of longer duration - which is why we're not seeing this same debate yet in marathons or cycling road racing).

I'm basically not in favor of letting trans females compete with biological females, but I also don't really feel like I have much of a dog in this fight. If I were a woman or had daughters, then I suspect my opinion would be voiced much more strongly. This particular cyclist has been extremely vocal about intepreting the IOC principle that "sport is a human right" to his/her exclusive advantage, and regards even rational arguments to the contrary as "hate speech". In his/her mind, there is no room for debate. I find it very hard to find common ground with such an individual and am not going to waste much energy trying.

The case of someone like Caster Semenya is far more complicated, and probably not a point of discussion in this thread.

OK, that's enough nuance for now.
