Travel Case for Overseas Work

Hey Guys,

Been doing alot of travel and work in Africa and other places. Just curious what some of you guys use for your personal shit. I.E cloths and toiletries. I am on a NON-DOD 60 on 30 off contract so keep in mind.

I have been looking at the Pelican 1620 and 1630 but they are half my load limit on a commercial hop and I don't care to pay over weight if I don't have too.

Looking for a well made hard case or hard sided case to protect my stuff from the baggage apes around the world.

The light flight series is pretty good but you would have to call and see what they have in stock or have it built to your dimensions. They should be able to give you an approximate weight on a build and for sure weigh what they have in stock before sending it out.

Thanks. They are still pretty heavy in there stock config but I will hit them up and see how much the flight lite weights. Really nice looking cases though.

I looked at the Titan Cases and WOW they are great looking cases. Sadly, I can have a custom case made for half the price. What do you guys think about the Polycarbonate vs the ABS plastic? They do not spec out how thick the polycarbonate is. This the one that caught my eye.

I travel a LOT, I used to buy a new carry on once a year, and new luggage every other year, Samsonite, Tumi and such. I got very tired of it and bought a couple pieces of Orvis travel gear. That stuff is very sturdy, and if you have ANY problems with it, next time you are in the States, go to any Orvis store and exchange it. Lifetime, forever.

I have only used the warranty once, on a carry on, about ten years old. The guy took one look at it, said wow - pick out what you like, that thing has some miles on it.

I have also bought my kids a set each on their HS graduation, they are set for good now too. My own collection now has a couple large pieces in bulhide, for African safari - a little heavier, but way tough.

With all the considerations posted, I would go for the Pelican or equivalent Storm case(whichever has the easiest latches to work) based on the PRICE! $2xx(Pelican) vs $5xx(Titan) and buy two. Who cares how much contract money there is for spending, I am still at heart a money saving type where money can be saved for premium stuff

The real issue is the weight of the pelican. It alone is half of the allowed international weight. I was looking for a case that is in the 10 tp 15 lb area but close to the durability of a pelican. So far the guys at Cabbagecases have been very nice and are working a quote for me on a custom ABS case that will be in the price range of the pelican but 10 lbs lighter. I too am a cheap ass and that is why I don't want to be paying overweight charges every time I fly commercial.

I really appreciate all the suggestions and I am researching them all. I am stateside of a month or two right now with my job and I hope to find something before I roll out again.

The Cabbagecases in ABS is still too heavy. The size of a large check bag was still 25-28 lbs. so a no go there. These polycarbonate cases are really winning the weight tests.

Cost for a Lightflite case that size is $333.00 with a weight of about 28 pounds.

On a side note these guys have been great. They where going to be able to build the case in under a week and deliver.
