I understand these are excellent rifles. I'm wondering how practical these are for field/hunting use. I'm looking for an all around (long range precision with some hunting use). By the looks of the rifle, it would fit those needs well (20" barrel). How good are the stocks? comparable to say...a Mcmillan? The one thing I dislike are the cost of accessories, specifically magazines. I would probably go with badger rings, and don't need a brake. Also, do these need a special "Sako", bipod mount? This could quickly turn into a $3500 setup and I wonder if a custom wouldn't be a better choice. Just wanting some general feedback, thanks...

i hunt with one. they are heavy if compared to a hunting rifle...light compared to a lot of tactical rifles.
for a hunting rig, i would just get a basic 20" barrel model and put some aluminum rings one it and the scope of your choice. i would use that 2.5-10 nightforce to keep weight down.
leave off the brake.
just get one extra mag if its just a hunting weapon.
i wouldnt even mess with a bipod, but if you must, you can slap on a harris to keep the weight down as the trg bipod is heavy.

Great rifles and worth buying over a custom, love mine. If you don't like the cal. switch to something else to hunt/comp. with.

I have one and I love it. It is an extremely well thought out system and amazingly accurate. That being said, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for hunting unless there will be a minimal amount of walking involved.
Although, as previously pointed out, the TRG is relatively light for a tactical rifle, it is still very heavy and a bit bulky for a hunting rifle. I'm no wimp, but wouldn't want to hump a 13+lb rig for miles on a rough trail when an 8 or 9lb rig will get the job done just as well.

Thanks for the input. I realize this isn't an ideal hunting rifle. With that said, I need something that is "fairly" practical for hunting and long range precision. I'm talking at most 7-10 days a year of field carrying, and 30 days a year of range use. I need a weapon that reasonably can do both. As it is now, I can't afford a strictly benchrest rifle as well as a new hunting rifle.
I do have another hunting rifle, but I want the option to take large game with the rifle I'm shooting most (personal satisfaction). I'm a fairly big guy and packing a 14lb rifle all day isn't a ridiculous chore for me...I've yet to find a better rifle for these considerations than the TRG 22. Thanks for the input.....

Great, comfortable stock, if it dosent fit you, face it, your a freak. The best trigger ever fitted to a rifle period. Great accuracy with a vast array of ammo, everything from 155gr scenars to 210gr SMK's and all in between will shoot screamer groups. The only gear as good is AI and its only as good, not better for what you will use it for. Buy 1 and be happy.

Hey something else to consider..after 5000 rounds or so down the tube "when groups open up past an inch@100, GA Precision will replace the barrel and match the contour, thread, chamber for I think around 650 bucks. Not bad if you ask me. Also I believe the Threads are Metric so haveing a Smith with this setup "GAP" is really handy. Plus I do believe its almost 400 dollars more for a 20" barreled TRG-22 than a standard 26"-less metal more money I don't get it but anyways. Any GunSmith will cut that factory barrel down and crown it for maybe 150 bucks and you can have any length you want (22" would be about right) That Saves you some money right there for some extra Mags!! Also don't get all hyped up on the Camo ones they have on there "EuroOptics" b/c you can get a black stocked TRG then by a DuraCoat stencil kit from like Midway for 100 bucks and do the same thing yourself.....again more money saved for Mags. I've done my research...I am a super fan of the TRG I just don't have one yet

As a reference point the Finn military changes the TRG42 .338 LM barrel at 4K rounds as maintenance SOP. It doesn't mean the accuracy has left the barrel.

Hi , i am thinking of buying one of these for the same reasons. I see it’s been a long time since this thread . What are your feelings and do you suggest this same rifle ?
A. Just some plinking and hunting....zero need for multiple mags. If you need more than 10 rounds to smoke your meat, you definitely don't need to be hunting.
B. $3500 is nothing bud....man if only ??
C. Start googling. Multiple agencies and units use them.
D. Europtic has a couple nice demos for pretty cheap right now
E. Use an Atlas bipod and spigot. Cheaper than factory, better IMO, and fairly light

My TRG started out as a Eurooptic special run in partnership with APA in 2013. It was in 6.5x47. The TRG mags wouldn’t work well with the x47, at least not for me in NM and CO sand. I got a conversion that KRG made at the time to run AI mags. I added a KRG spigot to run a Harris bipod further out and had a friend do a camo paint job a few years ago. With exception of a trial of a RPR (1 6.5x47 barrel), the TRG has been my go to rifle for matches for 6 years. I got notice my 4th barrel shipped from the gunsmith today. I’m now running 6.5 Addiction. I don’t think the rifle is what’s holding me back. I love my rifle, but with the options now. I recommend building one of the 60* actions in a similar stock (bravo, W3, A5,T4). Then you can more easily get replacement barrels and run your choice of Rem triggers and use AI mags (KRG doesn’t make the conversion anymore). Most any of the top gunsmiths will do TRG barrels.

- It is not a lightweight rifle. Some still like to use it for hunting

Can't speak to where you hunt, but a10 round capacity is a no-go for hunting where I live. That is a heavy rifle to hump around... there are innumerable options that will accomplish the general parameters you have set out. I would refine your requirements and re-evaluate.
A TRG is my primary rifle. I absolutely love it. Not ideal for hunting, but it would be more manageable than most heavy dedicated LR rigs.
One thing I didn’t see mentioned about is the barrel and barrel nut from KRG. That does give you the option to do a DIY caliber change or replace a shot out barrel.

1- I think the TRG is one of the most underrated rifles on here. I own three of them and they're all hammers, the stocks can be setup to fit just about anyone, the triggers are fantastic and did I mention they're hammers.
2- If you're hunting from a stand or a blind it might not be so bad. If you're out west like I am and you're stalking game, I would look for something lighter.
3- I have consistently found TRG 22s with little to no use on them via gunbroker for right around $2k. IMHO at a $2k price point the TRG is hard to beat.

The only down side to TRGs is the cost of factory accessories. Bipod, mags, scope mount, brake, and they use M18x1 thread pitch. Thankfully there are aftermarket options out there besides mags.
I will confirm what’s already been said. The most underrated rifle out there by far. It’s not as durable as an AI but shoots just as well and more ergonomic. Definitely my favorite stock out there if you prefer stocks over chassis. The trigger is phenomenal too.
Love the dual stage and adjustability of it. The smoothness of the bolt and the the bolt handle design feels just perfect .
