I am about to rebarrel another TRG, Inhad APA do my last one with Broughton barrels in a contour that very closely matched the factory contour. However this time around I think I would like to try a Proof Research carbon barrel. The only hesitation is I use the Sako TRG bipod which gets pretty close to the factory barrel when the weight of the rifle is on it. The closest Proof offers is the Sendero Light which is 0.954” around the 10” mark (where the bipod is located) depending on how it is threaded and chambered.

My question is does anyone have any experience with the Proof CF barrels on a TRG 22 in combination with the TRG bipod? Thoughts? Experiences? Thank you...

If i remember correctly, this topic has been covered before. Proof was too big to allow bipod clearance, but Hardy carbon barrels do allow clearance. I was going to rebarrel mine with a Hardy but think I'll cut weight by cutting 5" off the barrel. My trg is going to primarily be a hunting rifle so it would be far handier shorter and still of enough velocity for reasonable hunting range.

    OK so.
My mill to imperial might need checking but,
The difference between stock and proof is around 0.079" (per Massoud and actually measuring my barrel, 0.954 - 0.875)
Now that's about 2.0mm difference in diameter so only 1.0mm closer (0.040" if you do it that way.) to the bipod.
My bipod sits around 3.3mm or 0.131" under the barrel and I can without going too crazy manually deflect the 26" barrel about 1.3ish mm or 0.050" ish giving you 2.0mm (0.080") clearance with stock or 1.0mm (0.040") clearance with the proof.

There is heaps of room for till so I did worry about measuring that. On my rifle I'd go for it
especially with a shorter barrel being stiffer and maybe again being carbonfiber.

Also that was with the newer bipod, never seen an older one so do not know.

Awesome, t hank you for the info & work you put into it. I think you are correct, it will be ok. I have thought about it a bit more and think I’ll wrap my current barrel in tape until it is at the diameter of the proof and see how it fits. I’m not sure why I did not think of this before...
