Gunsmithing Triangle muzzle brake???

Re: Triangle muzzle brake???

Dont the XTR's have a built in brake? Maybe find a smith that is willing to port the barrel itself. or cut the brake off the XTR and then thread it internally and thread the barrel so the shoulders line up properly.

Can you put the XTR barrel on the XHR that way you keep the triangle barrel. I am sure that there is a smith somewhere with an XTR barrel kicking around that was a pull off and in good shape.

Moroni, oh title of liberty bearer,

Just put a carbide blade in your circular saw and three violent cuts later your XHR is an XTR.

That's probably how they do it at the factory.

You might have to shoot a few rounds to get rid of the burrs.

(Don't try this at home or at least use someone else's gun).

Thanks. Did he say if the smitty had a difficult time with it?

Re: Triangle muzzle brake???

the threading shouldn't be all that difficult. with proper setup, the interrupted cut shouldn't be a problem.

as for the original post, anyone with a mill and an indexer should be able to make a triangle brake that will semi-match the barrel

Re: Triangle muzzle brake???

Hi the REm brakes are a joke and seriously dont even try to duplicate that abortion if you have cut as many off as we do and recrown the rifles so they shoot properly and actualy saw how little gas hits the baffles they are a gimmic.

Any gunsmith that fits brakes and thread your barrel and fit a brake to is for you if you were in Australia we would do it for you. the barrrel can be spun up with a live centre and the triangle section turned round then re centre the bore with a piloted centre and re cut the thread diameter with the bore back on the floating pilot. this way it will be centred to the bore. then cut the thread and fit and index a good brake to the barrel. after the brake is fitted you can bevel the 3 scolops to the barrel in the mill and the customer will be happy. contact SSG gunsmithing Nate makes a great brake and i am sure he would fit a brake for you but any of the hides gunsmiths should be able to do it for you. also make sure you run the thread ont he steady afterwards and re crown it to make sure you have not damaged it.

The Tactical Target thankfully does not have those stupid scallops that the VTR (or whatever it is) has. Mine is just a weird triangular barrel that I would like some threads cut on.

Thanks for the lead on SSG. In case he is busy is there anyone else you recommend to thread a triangle barrel?

Re: Triangle muzzle brake???

Try GAP im sure they would be able to do it or one of the other guys here making breaks they should be able to fit a break for you aswell. it is not much harder than doing a round barrel because you have to index both anyway.
