I first started using DA for my field target solutions last year. I used JBM to generate DA data for my different rifles after reading about using DA as the main component of ballistic prediction here on the Hide. The DA solutions make for very accurate dope for varying conditions and locations and I hunt from sea level to around 4000' so I found them to be very useful. The problem was that I was not the best with neatly generating my DA data from JBM into nice field usable system....it worked well but was cumbersome. About that time the FDAC cards from ACTS showed up here on the Hide and it was real close to what I was looking for in a finished product. They have since done a lot to allow the shooter to reference their bullets and velocity with their cards but initially the product was only for a limited number of calibers and bullets that did not match what I was shooting. From what I read and see it is an excellent product but not specific enough for some of my load combinations. That led me to look for the same type of finished product specifically matched to my loads. I found that several weeks ago in a product called the Whiz Wheel put out by Accuracy 1st. It is based on the same ballistic formulas (point mass based with Litz G7 BC's) used in several ballistic solvers like the Shooter program for Droid and gives you a very complete solution in one handheld solver. It provides dope for elevation, windage (with solutions grouped by clock face direction of wind), movers, and spin drift. It also has a temp/altitude DA converter if you dont use a Kestrel type device and a slope dope table for angles. You use the wheel to reference your DA with your range to get the solutions. It is tunable for muzzle velocity of + or - 50 fps so you can tweak it for temp based on your zeroing temperature in addition to being tunable for bullet BC. They make some standard wheels but the best part for me is that if you provide them with you barometric and zero data the wheel they provide will be specifically made for your caliber and bullet. I have had 2 made so far and just got done testing the second this weekend. I checked them with some of my recorded field data and found the provided solutions have an accuracy of .1 mils with the known data I have recorded. I took just my Kestrel and the Whiz Wheel and shot several different distances from 500-800 yards on different days with DA numbers ranging from -100 to 1700'. It has proven to be very accrate and very fast to use in the field. If you are looking for a DA solver custom matched to your load and caliber you need to give them a look. They make a nice product and were great guys to work with in my experience.
