So I tried to bed my 17HMR using Acraglass from Brownells. It came "highly recommended" from my local gun store since it's all that they stocked.

I've bedded using Devcon before, which was a breeze... but this shit is horrible. There is absolutely no time to work with it and it was super super thin, so it didn't fill hardly any gaps and ran all down in the stock. Most of it ran out the bottom and mechanically locked my fucking DIP bottom metal in place (was trying to bed that in too).

Hopefully I can find a smith who can blast my barreled receiver and refinish it.

I only ruined a Boyd's Rimfire Hunter stock. Maybe I can sand all that shit off and order some Devcon or something...

Yeah, acraglass is as runny as syrup. It has it's purpose. I've used it with a few high end walnut stocks that were inlet to be an identical match to receiver, lug and barrel. Dam up the trigger and mag well and put clay in front of the forend tip (so it won't run out of the forend of the stock after placing the barreled action in to dry) and acraglass leaves the perfect clear amber color finish to a worthy high end walnut stock from tang to forend tip. Acragel is thicker and more manageable but dries to an ugly milky color but the gel will fill and stay in place a lot better than the glass. I would stay away from either except for the above application to a hand inlet wooden stock.

Had some real good results with JB Weld on rimfires. I used devcon liquid, putty would have been better, but it still came out ok. The JB was mixed with baking soda to thicken it up and keep it from running as it settles, what it tends to do.
