Hey guys,

Need help deciding on a trigger for my new Bighorn Tactical action build. A friend recently put one together, and is having clearance issues with the safety lever with a stock Remington trigger due to the tang thickness. Does this make any sense as I have not seen the gun? Considering a Jewell, Huber or open to suggestions. Any pics you may have of the rear tang with your chosen trigger installed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Trigger options for Bighorn Tactical

Just signed up for a Bighorn build from Mark at Short Action Customs without expressing a trigger preference. Build sheet shows a Timney 510U trigger, so it must work - at least with his Bighorn spec.

Had a Timney, switched to a CG trigger.

Several guys I shoot with have Bighorn actions. I know of Shilen, Huber, and Jewell triggers being used.

The Jewells work great for me and my shooting buddy on Bighorns, but I like mine at about 1.5 pounds.
I tried a Timney on a Bighorn, but the sear stuck up too high and caused a lot of drag when cycling the bolt. I'm not criticizing the Timney. I stuck it in a 700 action and it's sweet! It just didn't match up very well with the Bighorn sporter action that I tried it on.

Re: Trigger options for Bighorn Tactical

Thanks guys.

Anybody have a pic of their Tactical rear tang with a Jewell with a top safety. Just curious to see the clearance of the safety lever over the tang.

Thanks,
Paul

Never used it on a Bighorn, but my new favorite trigger is the CG Extreme 2-stage. I never thought I'd be a two stage guy, but I love the feel of this trigger. I am a convert...

If you are going to be hunting with it Paul, the Shilen trigger is hard to beat. The trigger shoe is a little bit bigger than a jewell and not near as wide as a older Remington. They can be set down to 1 1/2 pound. They are 1 of my favorite hunting triggers. You could also call AJ and talk with him about the triggers. He is a super guy to talk with on the phone. If you would go with the Jewell they also offer the bottom safety. I have had several of them on some single shot actions. Not sure how they would work if you had a glove on during the winter with the safety in the trigger guard, but i have always cut off enough material on the trigger finger so it would not be an issue.
