Triggers for tactical rifles?

Hey all,
I got a custom 700 in 300 Win Mag. Yesterday at the range, I finally decided that the factory 3.75Lb trigger pull was the culprit in my one or two "magic" flyers that I have been getting for too long now.

Anyway, Im looking for a good trigger group for Remmy. I like Jewel, Jard, Rifle Basix and Timney. I have heard that the Jewel trigger is the best but they are picky when it comes to dust, oil, cold weather etc. Also, they are a tad pricey. Im not looking for a 2oz pull, about 1.5Lbs would be great. I also want a reliable safety on it. (I think they are probably all reliable) And I want a reliable trigger group that will work from sub zero to 100 plus. Even if a bit of dust finds its way in. Also, some have steel housings some are aluminum. I personally think a steel housing would be better?? What do you think about these brands and the type of metal the housings are made of? Thanks for the help.

lots of tactical competition shooters use jewell triggers. i have one on my surgeon and love it. my wife prefers her timney because of the larger shoe. if you don't care how much you're spending, get the jewell. if you want to spend the least amount of money to get a good trigger, have a gunsmith like Mark Gordon at Short Action Customs (SAC) overhaul your x-mark pro. if you would rather have an aftermarket, get a timney. if you order from the factory, timney will set the pull weight to your spec.

I've shot a tuned remmy, timney and currently a jewell. A tuned remmy will shoot well at around 2# or more, but less than that and it's risky business (at least in my experience). Timney's are better, and I like the shoe as well. The jewell breaks differently than either and took me a while to get used to, but is easily adjustable and I got mine down nicely - as I was experiencing a similar issue shooting off hand as you are.

All that to say, if you haven't tried a jewell, try one and see if you like it. If not, get the timney.

LCDR summed it up well.

Im a two stage trigger fan and I only have experience with the Jewell. It's the best single stage trigger I have felt. Tons of people run these at tact matches and most don't experience failures. If you can foot the bill I would go with the Jewell.

The Timney is a nice, very crisp trigger. I like the one I've got and the one on my partners rifle.

I don't like Jewell for field rifles, whose release weight will be ~1-2 pounds. The trigger has a squishy feel and doesn't release cleanly, its as if it "rolls off" instead of breaking free. Plus, mine failed when it quit raining and started to dry out at a match.

I put a CG xtreme model 22 in my rifle, and I really, really like it. Breaks like a glass rod, and when adjusted well, has ZERO creep, while still having tons of sear engagement when your finger is off the shoe. That makes it a safe trigger.

Not at all, but it is different, from the norm. Standard issue Remington triggers block the sear, which many consider as a possible safety issue.

the solution to the safety issue for the old 700 is simply not to use it. If you want the gun to go off, put a round in and pull the trigger. If you don't want the gun to go off, don't chamber a round...our at least lift the bolt

What happens is when the safety is engaged or disengaged, it can cause the sear to trip. Some people have several rifles and never had an issue while other peoples rifles it seems to happen often.

Back when I used to work on guns I saw this quite a bit, some with new in the box guns. Several were the fault of the owner making the trigger too light with too little sear engagement but there were many that were factory set.

If you're going to use a 700 trigger, just remember all your safety rules...never keep a gun loaded, only point it in the direction you want to kill something etc. and you'll be fine.

How so? Also, which type of safety do ypu think is "safer"?? Timney's, or standard issue Remmy type. I only wonder cuz it looks like the Shilen uses the factory pre Xmark pro safety? Im definately down to Timney and Shilen. Sounds like the Timney is the way to go. I think...

If you must use a Remington, the Jewell has a spotty rep for reliability in the field.

You're talking about the Factory Rem trigger right? After market ones wont do this right? (As long as they're adjusted right)
