i got a NEW redding case trimmer with micrometer, ok i know the .308 brass is supposed to be around 2.005- 2.010 my brass is once fired, mic reading i'm gettin before trim is like 2.024 when i get it to about 2.017 it won't cut an chatters bad why is this and is this a bad length for dpms 308

Re: trimmer chatter why???

Chatter is mostly caused by the work piece being loose, the cutter / tool is loose or there's a vibration present when cutting. With that style of case trimmer my guess would be the brass is being held slightly loose.

I'm actually going to come and just throw this out, so don't get mad.

You're actually adjusting the locking collar so that the cutter head is cutting deeper, aren't you?

Sorry for not presuming that you know how to operate it.

Some brass is harder than other brands, but I'm betting that you're not allowing the cutting head/bar, to travel inwards, far enough. It seems to be cutting from point A to point B, well enough.

What gun/brass are you shooting where your cases after one cycle are already at 2.024". That chamber is freakin' long if your measurements are correct.
