I'd like to hear others thoughts on the height of their tripod that is appropriate for observation uses. Primarily for use with a spotting scope from a standing position.
I'm about 6' tall and I've noticed that some of the popular tripods, for example the Feisol 3372, list a max height of 58". That seems like it would require bending over too much to be comfortable with a spotting scope. My spotting scope preference is the straight eyepiece type. Seems like it would require a similar height for use with binocs.

Secondary use of the tripod would be for shooting, but the main purpose is to hold a spotting scope at a comfortable height. What have you found that works?

Right now I'm leaning towards the PVA Comp 40 with the RRS Anvil 30. For those that are using this setup, is it a good combo for use with a scope? Or should a look at a different head?

Well I pretty much answered my own question.

I shot a local match this weekend and had a chance to use a couple of tripod setups. There was another guy who is a little taller than I am and he recently bought a tripod. He had binocs on it, and for us to use them comfortably without having to bend over, a tripod that could extend to about 62" was just about right. By the time a head is added plus the height of the actual optic, it was right at eye level.

Can you comment on this tripod? I'm looking to get it but want to hear some reviews from folks on this forum.

It was not mine, but a guy me and the OP was talking to about tripods. I did not get to use it much as those guys were 6'2"+ and im 5'9".

I personally like the bipods with the latches vs the twist tubes but I usually use mine for hunting/ putting a rifle on to clean. I have a Benro Series 1. Its pretty cheap but works out in the field until I can get something better.

If you are getting one for shooting you want one tall enough to keep the center post at the bottom/no center post. You lose alot of stability there.

Yes, I believe that's the one we were using. It worked well and was plenty tall for our use. The guy that owned the tripod said that Innorel also has one that's got a little larger diameter tubes and I was able to find that one on Amazon. He seemed pretty certain that the Innorel came out of the same factory as some of the other tripods that have been discussed here and he very well may be right. There are some minor differences but they sure look similar.

Well this one is set low for the user, but a bit high for me at 5’10”

Easier to err on the side of being too tall if your gonna only have one. My hunting pod kept short to save weight. I overdo everything so I have a few to pick from but I use the 4 section RRS most often prob cause of the Anvil head.
