Guys Im completely new to the PR scene and Im looking to get a rifle finished before I head to the FBI Sniper school here in Texas. Im Law Enforcement and Im looking to get this gun done properly. I recently contacted GA Precision and didn't get an answer to my question and by no means am I upset with them, I realize they are busy. If I wanted to get my rifle blueprinted and trued do I have to replace the barrel? I have a B&C A2 stock and plan to have the Badger Ord bottom metal installed, do yall recommend bedding the stock?

First, just truing the receiver will not improve accuracy at all. The only thing that will happen is the receiver face and lug abutments will be true and perpendicular with the bolt race way and help the barrel "Look" straighter down range, that's it. If the receiver threads are re-cut the factory barrel will be "Loose" in it's fit to the receiver. Once the receiver has been trued the headspace will change to the point of being too long. This will require that the barrel be set back and headspace reset to match.

The most you can hope for is a shorter throat and the barrel looking straight down range. You'll still be at the mercy of the barrel and it's quality as far as accuracy goes. It'll be a crap shoot, save your money.

When you can replace the barrel I'd do the rest of the work and reap the benefits.

Good luck

You beat me to it. As a side note you can glass bed the action and possibly get more accuracy out of the rifle but it may be so negligible for your present ability that it goes un noticed. If you haven't already purchased the badger bottom metal I'd take a serious look at pt&g.

That was the kind of info i was looking for, thanks.

I have a slightly different perspective that wnroscoe. A couple of years ago, I sent off my Rem 700 SPS Tactical to Mark at Short Action Customs Short Action Customs | Your Foundation for Precision to get a tune up. I had the action trued, chamber recut with barrel set back slightly, barrel re-crowned, Badger FTE muzzle brake installed and a tactical bolt handle knob installed. The rifle went in as a .8 MOA shooter and came back a consistent <.5 MOA and often .3 MOA shooter when I did my part.

Will a trued action alone get you there? Probably not. I think the recut chamber and re-crown of the muzzle was the biggest accuracy gain. The sloppy factory Rem chamber was probably the biggest limitation.

The point being that with just a few tweaks - the factory Rem barrel is now shooting as well as some custom guns with custom high end barrels. And Mark @ SAC did all the work for about $600 IIRC. I think the turn around was around 3 weeks or so. I'm VERY VERY happy with the result.

BTW - the gun is in a Manners T4 stock with no bedding. Just torqued to specs and its a shooter with bottom metal already built in!

Save your money on the remy you have sell it I see there are some great gap guns for sell in the for sale section guns 308. Don't wait 8 months for a gun pick up one of these 308 now and you have a gun for life
