Truing up .22LR

If there’s some posts on this, please link and I apologize for being redundant if so.

Seems the general theory with centerfire is to true MV at <600 and then BC at >600. Seems to line things up pretty well.

Any rules of thumb for .22lr? Seems to me that it’s a bit harder to get my data out to 350yds lined up.

Of course it’s 22lr, but looking for some tips and tricks.

I have a 430yrd range at the house and am constantly plinking (mpa)22lr thru out the year, I've noticed temp and wind play a big part in that days elevation. I try to adjust BC on a mild calm day 40/50 degrees then adjust when colder/warmer etc normally no more then .4-.5 but enough to miss the 10" at 330y. I've heard lapua Biathlon is really good for temp changes but have yet to try it. I run Eley Edge/federal match mainly and have had great results.

Interesting. Hope to learn something here. About to go down this road and try to figure out how to calculate BC for my own custom 22lr. Have a thread going in the rimfire section:

My situation is a bit unique. I estimate my final testing baseline rounds will be somewhere between 1715 and 1740 fps. Using a MV of 1725, these will stay supersonic out to about 150 yards per Stelok Pro using a G1 BC of .108

In my Kestrel 5700, I've created a MV Temp Table. With that 'on,' I then perform the Cal DSF referenced in your link. I've seen good results.

But keep in mind, things do change. The data collection process, and truing, should be repeated periodically.

How I get that velocity is documented in the thread. I don't know what the correct BC is for my bullet. Hoping that if you know MV, bullet weight, barrel twist rate and bullet drop at a certain distance, it can be calculated. The BC mentioned is for a bullet out of the Streloc database - not for mine. Used it to get an idea of what velocity and energy might be out to 300 yards.

I've had several Savage actions that were trued up by having the receiver face and nut recut, threads touched up, and lug recesses squared. They were then rebarreled with custom barrels, some using the nut and some not. They always shot better. No comparison to the factory set-up.
T&T of an action is just one of those things we do to "make it right". If it doesn't make a difference, then probably half the stuff we do doesn't make a difference either -- but I will still do it because logic tells me a true and square platform is the best place to start.
If a T&T factory action is not better than a stock factory action, then probably a custom action is no better either

Wrong kind of truing. The OP is speaking in terms of “Truing” the BC of his bullet...

Feel free to correct me if I’m misunderstanding your question, but if you’re wanting to know what the BC of the bullet you’re using in your rifle in specific environmental conditions, and you know your actual bullet drops at specific distance, and your muzzle velocity, at that point you input your rifle info, bullet info, environmental data into your ballistic app, then you manipulate your BC (True) so that the calculated bullet drops match your actual confirmed bullet drops. Whatever that number is, is the actual BC of that bullet in your rifle under those conditions.

Doesnt matter. Just plug your zero distance into the app. I zero mine @ 50. Some do it at 25.

You want to keep your 22LR subsonic. Ie under 1126fps. They have issues with stability running supersonic. Increased Velocity isn’t your friend with a 22 they way it is with a center fire.

If you really want to true it use different BC values for different velocities (multi B.C) I guess only tweaking that will get you 100% on target.
