I am looking to get an ar10 looking for a 16 to 18 inch barrel and not looking to build one I am planning on spending around 4k for the base rifle. The guns I have in mind are the larue prediobr and lmt but open to suggestions

I’d start with what you want out of the rifle. Accuracy is relative to your ability of shooting a gas gun. That being said, if that’s your main goal, then GAP10 or JP is possibly a better choice then KAC or LMT. Also, $4k won’t fetch a KAC. Good luck with the search. I have a Seekins SP10 I built around and I’m the weak link probably in accuracy. It’s a great gun I’m kinda biased to Seekins as I’ve had great experiences using them.
for that, I'd get an aero m5, ruger sfar or the like and call it a day

MWS, thats their only AR10 platform. I love their 20" 7.62 5R stainless barrel but all of their barrels have shot well for me.
Another proponent for LMT. I don't have an SR platform from them, but I do have a 12.5 specwar. I beat the hell out of this thing, I really abuse it. Just keeps ticking, eats everything I give it, doesn't care how dirty it is, or how hot it gets. The thing just doesn't stop.

Is that $4k burning a hole in your pocket? Cause an LR308 would do the trick. For a few hundred more you could add a criterion barrel, aftermarket trigger of your choice and barrel shim. That’d wring out 99.5% of accuracy potential from a large format AR and leave enough dough left over for a nice piece of glass. You might even get lucky with the stock barrel.

Most people spending $4-5k are either buying a safe queen, something they depend their life on that’s been proven in the field for decades or, as in my case, a rifle that I built to my specifications. I’ve acquired most of my preferences over years of trial and error and aren’t necessarily better than the next guys…just what I prefer.
Examples are barrel, trigger, grip, charging handle and sights to name a few.
I’d also spend less on the rifle and then have some money to change parts out as you figure out what you like. Also on better glass as I said before. That makes a big difference IMO.
If you are looking at a field rifle its kind of hard to beat something like a PrediOBR , POF Revolution DI, or a Rugar SFAR. With optic, these will probably weigh the same as some of the more military oriented designs with no optics.
Personally I shoot LMT's and KAC's
LMT or Seekins SP-10. LMT is the shit just for being able to swap a barrel in a couple minutes to go to other calibers with a repeatable POI shift.. Nevermind the fact that the monolithic receiver is rigid AF for mounting IR lasers and the overall quality is top tier.
Seekins would be my second pick and I wouldn’t buy a large frame Larue. KAC is great and I’ve always been a big fan but they’re so overhyped and overpriced it’s not even funny. The prices the stuff has been selling for lately is absolutely absurd and it isn’t worth it unless you just want a flex.

If that's all you need out of it..... Palmetto State Armory and a decent scope and spend the other $2k on good ammo.
Spending more than $2000-2500 on the rifle is a waste of money. With 100% certainty I’d bet you won’t outshoot a $2500 gas gun. Save your other $1500 and put it towards good glass

With that kind of money you can also get an RMR and mount it at an angle for close shots and be even kewler than a $4K AR10 guy.
Take a hard look at the POF Revolution DI. Sub-7 pounds, they're bomb-proof, sub-MOA with the right ammo and great build quality. Match grade fluted barrel, nitrided BCG, etc... Has a billet upper/lower with full ambidextrous controls, tension screws in the lower, easy to dial in gas system and it's the same size as an AR15. I've had mine for three plus years now and it's been 100% reliable. Will be a lot easier to haul around for hunting.
My Dd5v3 is extremely accurate. This is 4 shots of 168 fgmm at 100 yards.
To be more specific, LMT has one Large Frame platform, but there are very different options for uppers. MLok, Picatinny, and LM8 (slick side proprietary version... which appears to no longer be available).
Love my LMT, but if I was looking for something to lug around in the woods for any length of time, I'd take the POF Revolution- probably a tie accuracy wise once you've found their fave ammo, had zero reliability issues with either, but the weight difference is considerable. Also very easy to dial the gas for suppressor use on the POF. It's also a fair chunk cheaper than the LMT....

I think there are alot of really good large frame/308 AR's on the market today, so its a lot easier to find something that makes more sense for your uses.
I have on 3 that pretty much cover me for anything I need.
20 inch 6.5CM LMT MWS/w 3-18, for longer range stuff
13.5 inch 308 LMT MWS/w LPVO for mid range Stuff
16 inch SR25 ACC/RDS for general purpose, blasting steel, short range stuff.
If had to run with one, it would probably be an MWS, with a spare lightweight barrel, and just configure it appropriately for what I am using it for.
Windham Weaponry ar10. Bought one before the Hilary/Trump election. Very solid, well built and flawless. I upgraded the barrel to a Fulton armory match 308. Shoots tight groups. And the price is good.
Used MWS. Most people don’t shoot them so it’ll be practically new.
JP all day long, It will be overkill for what you are doing but it will scale up well when you want to get out to much longer ranges.

You can pretty much say that about any brand and there are multiple threads on this very forum complaining about every big name out there. I've literally had the exact opposite experience with POF so as they say, your results may vary.
I'm going this route. I didn't know they did complete upper's. I have 4 M5 receivers needing to be built out. This is probably the best bang for your buck and you can save up the other $2000 for glass or a suppressor and a used optic.
Love my LMT marsh -h. Sweet gun and considering its a gasser and only 18" its pretty damn accurate.
