Turbocharged Gasoline Engines

I have been running my Cummins (turbo charged diesel that is an 07 and still pulling strong), my parents have their Macan S and I am waiting on my Macan GTS (twin turbo) to clear customs.

If you are running the dogsnot out of the engine just give it a minute to cool down before shutting down the engine. Normal use you should be fine.

Use quality oil (suggest synthetic) and change the oil and filter regularly.

Remember to change out the air filter also. If you are in a dusty, dirty area change it more frequently.

Modern turbos are better than the old ones with the bearings used and better cooling to them. That was the issue with the older stuff. And yes running a turbo timer or letting them idle for a while after driving them hard helps reduce issues with longevity. When I was a Toyota tech I can count on one hand how many turbos I had to replace or engine issues, and that was late 90's-early 2000's. We used to have a handful of local customers with Mr2, Celica and other models with turbos. No issues. Even the Supra's were fine.

Dan Gurney used to bring his bad ass single turbo Supra in for work here and there. I miss driving that car. One of the fastest street cars I have ever driven. I have never had to shift so fast in my life. Insanely fast once it hit boost and stayed there through all 6 gears. Great guy to talk to also.

that thing. I'm utterly shocked it was sold. Reigning champ of fastest production truck for a great many years. Took a supercharged v8 to do it (lightning). You could buy a few AI's for what that bad boy is worth right now. But to drive it; for someone that never had/has, wow. Never would've thought of an S-10 in that way.

Rrriiiight.... All modern cars are the same. Hyundai is just as good as Mercedes, Ford hasn't had any problems with the EcoTec engines, and CVT transmissions are just great. Darn it. We really need a sarcasm font. That being said, people who only plan on buying new and trading in when the warranty is done only have to worry about the inconvenience of dragging it back to the dealer.

None of the things that you mentioned have anything to do with forced induction motors. It’s not 1985 anymore.

I’ve got the F150 with the small six twin turbo and 10 speed automatic. Love the immediate get me outta here boost. 100,000 on a 2019 and zero issues (except that freezing door latch shit)!

I bought a new Bronco Badlands with the 2.7 Turbo motor. Runs great. Has a life time power train warranty if anything goes wrong. Wife loves it and was driving a Hemi Dodge Durango before it. The Bronco is a fun driver

I keep a car/vehicle 3-4 years with OCD maintenance and then trade it off into something new.

Not familiar with Ford’s, but some lifetime power train warranty’s cover the short block only.

Mine is a written Ford Contract. Entire engine, trans and electrical system with an additional 10-12 other components. Its a transferrable warranty tona new owner as well.

She would never get that deep in the throttle. She drives like Hooks in Police Academy.

Had 136K VW GTI 2.0T with Direct Injection. The ENGINE wasn't the problem with that car; per se (other than intake manifolds which died ever 20k until the last one was done but I sold it before it got too much over 20k). No issues whatsoever with turbo. Used NO Oil. I mean NO oil at 136K. I was religious at changing it with 5w40 Motul Xcess every 5K (though the humanity I went to 6k once). No real need to let it idle after normal driving as the VW (as did the old 944 Turbos) cycle oil after turning engine off (you can hear the relay click off after a minute or 2).

Turbo tech and oil is much better today. Enjoy the torque and HP and live life to the fullest.

So, you're asking why sell. Well, interior was shot. Door cards became glue, headliner failed 2x (factory). And, the clutch was getting iffy after the daily 1 mile start/stop every 5 feet to get to work. Mechanically though, I can almost promise you the engine (bearings/rings/turbo) were almost perfect.

Also, I should have run a catch-can so the injectors didn't have to be media-blasted every 50k or so.
