Looking forward to season opening. I was in my hot tub yesterday morning, and thirteen turkeys, at least one of which was a gobbler, walked along the hillside behind my house at about 35 yards. They were in no hurry, just meandering along.
I have been planning an early planting of corn, so as soon as the rain stops, I will plant some.

Re: Turkeys

I've got a shit load of turkeys and White Tail dear that hang out in my yard. I hate the turkeys, they scratch the shit out of my yard. In the rut, the deer scrape the bark off of my damn fruit trees.

Re: Turkeys

I have the Spring Turkey season fever. I had a pretty good season last year. Toms were holden tight to the hens last year and I actually got to see one get bred last season. I got their address though and I am gettin close so they hopefully don't give me the slip again. Good Luck to ya all in your neck of the woods.

Re: Turkeys

I am getting ready myself. Have to pattern my gun today and hope that my shoulder surgery of tomorrow heals far enough to be ready for the combo opening day weekend of PA on 4/30 and NY on 5/1. Have some spots loaded with birds in both states so it seems fairly promising. Just got the new NWTF magazine with my daughters picture in it with one of last year's birds, so she is excited as well.

this season:

1st day (Apr. 30) I chose not to shoot at a jake with 5" / 6" ish beard at 8:30 in the morning (as the last few years i harvested long beards), by 10:00 I was regretting it with $4.00 a gallon of gas and plus the lack of time to actually go hunting.

Second trip out (Friday May 06, different area) produced a few gobbles at daybreak, a coyote, and 2 deer, along with seeing 3 hens later in the day. Nothing to shoot at though.

Today (May 07 different area) I thought about the $4.00 a gallon of gas and with what I thought at the time to be rainclouds to my right, I squeezed the trigger. This was the first time at this property, no previous scouting to go by. There were 4 jakes together, I had to wait until they were far enough out (at one time they were within 10 yards) and until they spread out enough not to take out 2 or more with one shot.
