This has been on our schedule for over a month thought it might be better on its own.

Thanks

Re: TVP beyond a 1000yds ELR Shoot

Whew.... 2350 yards. I see I'm gonna need to build a bigger pistol to do that match.

Does look like fun though, maybe someday. Might have to sneak out to watch one of these. Sure gonna need some super optics to see hits or misses for a call though.

Wasn't that long ago we all thought 1000 yards was a long way, then a hit on the mile was the dream. Better equipment and technology sure is helping to stretch it out.

So far, the weather looks great. I'm bringing my 300 NM Imp slingin' 210 Bergers @ 3245 fps. Still need to get some N570 to try the new 230's.

Re: TVP beyond a 1000yds ELR Shoot

That would stetch the Edge's legs out. Is there any chance of getting there early and shooting from the bench to get dope at all. I only have load development so far. But would like to give it a wirl.

I knew i should have saved and got the 25x optic !!! dohh

Couple month back I was taking shots at 2200 with a scope set on 11 or 12 power. You'll be fine. Hope to see you there.

Re: TVP beyond a 1000yds ELR Shoot

If the ballistic calculator is correct, i'm good for a center hold out to 2175. The trajectory sure falls off quickly at these distances!

3.8 mils of wind for a full value 10 mph at that distance. 4.2 mils @ 2350. I need to check into a different scope if this elr catches on. I'll need to use a 5.5 mil hold over for the 2350.

Yeah this one should be good. I need to get my 7stw build going so I can have a dog in the fight

Good luck,

Re: TVP beyond a 1000yds ELR Shoot

Did everybody find that your data matched the shot? Or was there a large discrepancy from the calculations? Any issues at/near the velocity that the rounds went subsonic? What bullets were shot and at what MV? Thanks.

Re: TVP beyond a 1000yds ELR Shoot

My dope was good out to about a mile with 300 Scenars at 2800, after that I had to add a few tenths to my dial (mils).

BTW, is Kurt with the 6.5-284 on here? PM me if you are, have a question.

Re: TVP beyond a 1000yds ELR Shoot

Just curious how spotting was on targets this far away, were you able to see and also hear any hits? Looks interesting and gives the guys bored with close up 1000 yard matches a place to stretch it out but wondered how the hit ratio was and difficulty of spotting is.

+1 and is there any chance of doing another one of these shoots? I couldn't make this one but would definitely like to give it a shot

Re: TVP beyond a 1000yds ELR Shoot

well nothing is easy at these distances but there were times there was good splash from the ground. i think some guys hit at the closer ranges and we did here the steel ring. this was a very good shoot and i hope we have more. i didnt hit any but was so close. i felt pretty good at 2105 yards and having some one say just aim at the top right of the plate, so i know i was very close on three shots shooting off a tripod and me in a chair. the calwell bipods is great fr hunting but i need a heavier more solid one so now after shooting at these distances i know what i need.

Re: TVP beyond a 1000yds ELR Shoot

Did any steel from 2030 out get hit and could you hear the impact? I know the closer stuff is AR500 that has a nice ring but, I think the long range stuff is just mild steel plate so I'm wondering if it will ring or thud on impact?

Re: TVP beyond a 1000yds ELR Shoot

The steel rings great. I thought the same thing but it sounds more like a bell and VERY loud. If the wind is below 10 -15 mph you will hear it at 2400 yards. Hits were hard to see and the lighting made it tough but we did not use a spotting scope either. Certainly would have seen a much higher percentage of hits if that were the case.
This course will educate the shooters in what they need to perform in the ELR game. Out to 2000 yards has never been an issue. It's 2200 to 2500 thats the game changer.
We will be scheduling another match for March.

Re: TVP beyond a 1000yds ELR Shoot

I had a blast. Stooting at that distance showed me many areas that will tighten up my shooting. My ballistics program wasn't up to the task but Jon and the group helped me out there. Check. Really looking forward to using better techniques and dope to improve.

Are there going to be any more ELR shoots?
