Twist Rates for 7mm RM

I use a 1-8 for my 7 saum.
I do blow up occasional 180 eldm’s though.
Subsonic stability with 180 and 190’s seems really good.
8.4 seems like a great compromise.
1-9 for sure with lighter bullets.

For 160's the Remington standard of 1-9.25 is fine. I was very successfully with 168 & 175 gr SMK from a 1-9.25 twist. Heavier bullets and long VLD's are available for the 7mm are where faster twists are needed.

A 1-9 will handle up to 180gr bullets with no problem. My 284win F class gun I’ve shot plenty of 180 VLD’s and 183SMK’s with no issues. The gun still holds a local clubs mid range f class record.

Up to the 195gr bullets I‘d go 1-8.5 twist.

Bartlein Barrels
I use to see a few 9-8.7 gain twists for F class before the 195berger showed up is that still a good option for medium bore 7mm with 180's. Is this still common?
Thanks in advance

I went 1:8.5. It'll just barely stabilize 195's, and can still work with 162's without over stabilizing. If you're shooting lighter bullets, you'll need a slower twist. I don't think there's a true one twist fits all

The key to shooting a lighter bullet/shorter oal bullet length in a faster twist barrel is to shoot good quality bullets and ammo with little run out. Crappy bullets and or ammo that has a lot of run out then a faster twist will amplify the wobble per say and that’s where it causes accuracy issues.

Mine's a 1/8.5 Bartlein. Shoots the 180's great. Haven't tried the 195's yet, questionable on if they will be fully stabilized depending on how fast you can push them with a RM case and how long of a barrel you got. But I'm able to push the 180's at 3050 right now.

I just ordered a 1-8.5" twist brux for a hunting rifle that will be chambered in 280 AI. I tend to shoot heavy for caliber so I don't have to worry about spinning light bullets too fast and blowing them up. Since I live in the midwest and hunt in the winter the air tends to be heavy so a little extra spin is not a bad thing ballistically.

That should be a sweet set up.
