Just poking around PTG's website to see what interesting items they have. Holy fuck, these guys are insane!
I dare you guys to read this product description for their "M40" rifle stocks without laughing out loud! I don't even know where the fuck to begin with this one. Apparently "Quantico" (just Quantico, no other info) had a hand in making these shitty reproduction M40 stocks. I learn something new everyday! Lol
The original USMC M40 stocks never has epoxy "laid in the valley pouch on top of the original stove bolt nut." This is completely wrong and it's utter bullshit. I've owned about a dozen or more original USMC M40 wood stocks, and none of them have this unique feature that the PTG wood stocks have.
Colonel Norm Chandler IS NOT a "Vietnam Sniper Team Leader!" This is some epic bullshit, Norm never held this billet and I'm not even sure he ever deployed to Vietnam. Norm was the OIC for a training range in Quantico, and the old RTE shop was under his command. That's the closest he got to being a sniper in the Marine Corps. Why the fuck is this nonsense in this product description?
And lastly, my personal favorite part of this ridiculous shit, the high and low cheek risers on original USMC M40 stocks! I'm not even going to bother with being snarky, I'm just going to let everyone know that this is 100% fake bullshit! There has never been an instance where a "Da Nang armorer" has had to sand down the fucking cheekpiece on the original USMC M40 stocks. Additionally, there isn't a single original USMC M40 stock in existence in private or public collections that show this modification.
PTG also, incorrectly, states that this practice of sanding down the the M40 stock's cheek riser continued until "Quantico started using high rise Redfield scope mounts." This is, unsurprisingly, complete fucking nonsense. First off, the Marines used Redfield scope bases and scope rimgs, not scope mounts. Second, there are no "high rise Redfield scope mounts" for the M40. The Marines used low Redfield scope rings on the Redfield 40X scope bases on the original M40's. Third, the Marines started using medium height scope rings on the M40A1, since the A1 had a thicker barrel than the M40 and the additional scope ring height was needed to clear the scope's objective lens housing from the top of the A1 barrel. Fourth, what the actual fuck with this insane nonsense!

Well, isn't this interesting, the M40 clip slot service that PTG is advertising has the same shitty clip slot as the one that's cut into OP's receiver. Maybe that shitty clip slot wasn't done by the Remington Custom Shop. Maybe, just maybe, PTG cut that clip slot, since it's pretty much identical to the clip slot cutting service photos they have on their website:

PTG is actually selling Remington 16601 aluminum buttplates for $220 each! $220 for an item that routinely sells for less than $20 on ebay and at gunshows! Hell, I've given away DOZENS of these original Remington 16601 buttplates to members here on this forum. Damn, apparently I could have made thousands and thousands of dollars on them, had I actually sold them at PTG's price, instead of just giving them away to our community members for free:

Did you guys know that the Remington M24 sniper rifle actually used a long action Redfield scope base and rings? I'm learning so much today!
