Looking for some field use data on the Deadline Action. Pros/Cons

Also anyone using the barreled action from Ultimatum? How is the accuracy?

Thinking about ordering the barreled action in 6mm Creedmoor. Looks like a good deal.

I had one of the early versions. Fit and finish were excellent, but the bolt effort due to partial cock on close was high. I contacted them, and to their credit, they acknowledged the characteristic and offered to send me a redesigned bolt that was being tested. The new bolt did reduce the effort to cock on close, but by that time I had a chance to try a Vector and sold the Deadline. I've since seen only one at local PRS matches and it ran well.

No experience with their barrels.

If you’re buying a new one, that issue is resolved. The action is super smooth. Not as smooth as a 1950s Mannlicher Schoenauer that I have, but then again nothing is. I don’t know how the the DLC coating will last relative to good bluing, but so far, so good.

So far it's by far the best feeling action I've owned or handled. Chassis options are limited seems to be the only con I can find. So if you're looking for quick and easy plug and play on any R700 SA stock or chassis this ain't what you're looking for.

I would disagree with your statement. I've had my Deadline in numerous R700 footprint stocks. The fitment issues are known, and not very hard to deal with. #1 - Mag catch height #2 - Trigger hanger relief. Most any action with a trigger hanger will need some stock work anyways, so I wouln't count that.

Deadlines are very similar to aiae actions, at least in several regards. 3 lug 60°, both actions halfway cock firing pin on up stroke and complete fp cocking on bolt close. This distributed the cocking effort I dont mind it, never minded it on my ae's and at's. I've got a shilen prefit 6.5prc on my deadline, even dropped it into an aics, since the 2 are so similar.

I have mine in a MDT ACC with deadline inlet. Input an IBI barrel on it and have been getting fantastic accuracy. The barreled actions use IBI barrels.

There is also an issue with the dimensions of the opening at the bottom of the action. This causes feeding issues that can't be solved unless specifically inletted for the Deadline. Like I said...it's not a plug and play action. Even though the mag catch issue may be simple, modifications still have to be made.

Looks like no one told my aics, w3, or manners mini chassis about this feeding problem. Rear screw length, properly designed v block bedding, trigger hanger clearance, and maybe adjustment to mag release length. Any other issue is chassis fault, not action.

If you say so, chief. I'm not knocking the action, it's awesome. But it's marketed as a R700 clone and there are just enough differences to frustrate someone looking for the easy button and wants plug and play.

Mdt chassis with deadlines seemed to have the most problems. It dropped into a manners gen2 minichassis with zero issues besides rear screw needing trimmed and mag release height lowered .020". Deadline dropped into a krg w3 gen6 perfectly and needed nothing. The aics needed a little bit of milling for thicker lug and trigger hanger and mag release trimmed .020. Zero feed issues, they would even feed just holding mag by hand. The actions do have a positive overstep, so mags cant be overinserted. If a magazine is up to action and it's not feeding, it's a chassis or mag problem.

Again, I disagree. The action is cut for detachable bottom metals...that's it. There's no magic to that. Same as @6brshooter said, it fits and works with standard 700 footprint chassis, MDT being the exception, and they identified/resolved the issue on their end.

Much like most on this forum, I've gone through at least 5 custom 'rem 700 footprint' actions, and not one dropped in/worked perfectly in every stock/chassis on the face of the earth. Last winter I spent 2 hours with a dremel trying to get an Impact action to fit onto a friend's Whiskey 3 because of the trigger hanger screws. That was 1.75hrs longer than I spent getting my Deadline to run in anything I've used.

Every action out there needs tweaks...If you are don't believe that, you aren't living in reality.

I'm rocking the Deadline Ultimatum in a JP APAC Chassis (full MR-19 from JP) in 6 Creed. It's awesome! I'm getting ~1/2 inch groups at 100 with the Federal 105 Bergers.

Have a deadline in a Mpa comp chassis. Have the adjustable mag catch from mpa dropped all the way down and it is perfect. No other modifications were needed. As far as the action is concerned I have been nothing but impressed with it. Sent it to Patriot Valley for him to measure the action and screw on a dasher barrel and havent looked back. Accuracy if phenomenal and I have had zero issues with feeding running the AW mags with the HRD kits.

I have 2 deadlines, both early and late SN's, 308 boltheads. I can swap barrels, boltheads, and action bodies with all the same headspace.

For a 60 degree 3 lug bolt action mine is very smooth. I would bet that if anyone in the market for a action with the functions of a deadline felt one the would be impressed. Other than some minor fitment issues that are typically fairly easy to overcome I dont know why the deadlines are not more popular.

Does any one have the ejection issue I did? The dual plungers are great, but would kink the necks on my 6mm BRA brass on eject due to the high tension. I will say, I've never had a problem with ejection. It would send my brass pretty far. I ended up cutting one of my plunger springs, and still have high ejection power.

Am shooting mine in a dasher and havent seen this problem. I will say that it does really throw the brass out. Had a stage where the had you lay prone on a scissor lift and it would run it up and down. Everyone else was picking up there brass from inside the lift and with my Deadline my buddy was on the ground catching mine as it was throwing my brass out of the lift.

Positive ejection here also. I can lay my rifle on the left side, and feed and eject loaded 6.5prc and they'll get thrown up and out and land by butt pad.

6br/bra/dasher can have that problem in any push feed spring ejector action. I've had to trim ejector springs in rem700 for 6br.

I’m currently running a Deadline as my main comp gun in 6.5 Creedmoor and I love it. I’ve just got it in a B&C stock until my MPA arrives next week and the fitting required is very minimal. The magazine catch will have to be shortened due to the bigger bolt body and the rear action screw will likely need to be shorter. Some stocks may require in letting around the trigger and safety area to accomodate the lower hanging trigger.
The pros are it is built like a tank. I like the idea of a trigger hangar instead of pinned into the action because I can have another trigger ready in a hangar on big matches should a trigger go down. The removable bolt head is cool if you’re into changing calibers.
it feeds like a sewing machine from AW Mags absolutely flawlessly. I haven’t had enough time to get AICS magazines tuned properly to make me comfortable enough to run them in a match though.
Before purchasing the Deadline I looked into the Curtis Axiom, Big Horn TL3, Defiance Deviant and the Impact and even AI AT’s. The cocking is split 50/50 so while it’s lighter to lift than an Axiom, the lowering the bolt handle is heavier than an Axiom for example.

Installed the MPA adjustable mag catch this evening and I still cannot get a mag to seat. I'm not using AW mags though. I have Accurate WSM mags.

Mine will not let aics mags lock in with it's current configuration. I would have to take some off the mag catch if I wanted to use them. But it runs AW so good the only think I am missing is the ability to run mags over 10 rounds.

What caliber are you running? I shoot 6xc and can fit 11rnds in a standard AW mag. I’ve also just made a 12rns AW mag mod that has run flawlessly thru 300rnds....pretty easy mod.

I’ve been so curious on the ultimatum actions!! But the first u300 had so many issues and then the deadline saw some
Similar problems when first released I figured I’d wait it out. I’ve still never seen one first hand but being made in Canada I really want to try one. Maybe next build.

Got mine running with the Accurate WSM mags. Took me about 20 minutes with the dremel shortening up the factory mag catch a little bit at a time. Also ordered an AW mag to see if I'll prefer that route. Didnt realize they also have an internal 2.95 OAL. The 147 ELD-M .020 off my lands just barely fits.

I run an Deadline in a MPA Matrix chassis. Shortened rear action screws and trimmed mag catch. No need to cry about fitment when it takes all of 5 minutes worth of work to drop right in.
Mine runs great with AW mags in 6 creedmoor. It’s got about 700 rounds on it now with 1000s more of dryfiring and it’s super smooth. It does have the updated lighter bolt lift.
Ran it at a two day PRS match a few weeks ago and not one issue.
