Ultrasonic brass cleaner?

There are numerous inexpensive units available that don't have much power nor durability. They will clean brass, but are a bit slow and count on them to go tits up when you need them most. Once you invest around $300 you can get ultrasonic cleaners that have adequate power and that will last a while. Check out Amazon, sort by price and look at the reviews.

Any particular reason that you want an ultrasonic cleaner? Have you looked into a wet tumbler, like the Frankford arsenal? Once I started wet tumbling, the Ultrasonic cleaner stays on the shelf for brass. But to answer your question, the RCBS unit with the heater seems to be ok.

Have been ultrasonic cleaning for years & very satisfied with the process & results. There IS a learning curve but once you get it figured out IMO it's superior to wet tumbling but you will get (like everything else on here!) differing opinions on that of course. The biggest deal is getting enough transducers to the job quickly and efficiently, 3 is a minimum, more is better. The transducers do the heavy lifting. A timer that allows for more than 30 minutes at at time of operation makes life easier to. I use them not only for brass but BCG's, muzzle brakes and numerous other gun parts as well. Go for a commercial model.

depends mainly on budget.

Cheapest cost wise would be stainless steel wet tumbling. All you need is the unit + dish detergent and maybe some Lemishine. also is very effective at cleaning.

ultrasonic is the worst for bulk cleaning compared to wet tumbling or vibratory but it's great as a parts cleaner as well.

Vibratory is your cheapest option but buying the right media is key. Using bags of rice will last you a long time. Is also decent for cleaning some types of other equipment.

i personally have a wet tumbler for my brass cleaning and some other things and an ultrasonic for reloading parts and other sensitive equipment .

I will check out bullets.com, thanks.
I don't do what I consider bulk processing, but 50 pieces of 308 would be nice to do in one batch.
I have a very small Frankfort arsenal cleaner now, it doesn't work very good at all...im beginning to understand why.

What type of frankford arsenal cleaner and why do you think it doesn't work well?

clean brass doesn't = SHINY brass. Clean means free of dirt, debris, particulates, lubrication and some carbon. You clean cases so that then you go to size them you're not scratching up your dies, cases and causing misformed cases.

DW, while I do sonic cleaning, wet tumbling with ss pins will also get carbon deposits out of your cases. SS tumbling will also clean primer pockets as sonic cleaning will. My main beef with pin tumbling is one, dealing with the pins (seperation) two, pins stuck in primer pockets that you can miss and three, case mouth "preening" by the pins which I've seen from this method being used. I think some of the case mouth roughness may be resolved by how and at what speed you tumble though, not sure. Maybe Ghengis can shed some light on this.
