What clamp works best for running a umbrella clamped to a tripod. I want to stay out of the sun as much as possible and also have a sturdy enough mount for wind and rain within reason. I have a vortex radian tripod

Get the grey ops plate then thread your umbrella for the holes in it. You have to be careful it doest blow over tho. Even hanging a coat on them turns it into a windsail.

The one I got from Sam's club was made for use with a chair and has a built-in clamp. I'll use a quick-clamp when using it from a bench if it is too thick. As stated above you'll need to hang a pack from the tripod or anchor it for wind.

I don't want to run a plate. The umbrella is just for me to stand under and I don't mind collapsing it when I'm up to shoot

I bought a cheap clamp from Small rig that screws into the side of my tripod.

Works well but it take only the slightest breeze to tip the tripod over.
Weighting it down helps a lot but even a moderate wind becomes very dodgy.
